I'd honestly feel bad for him if he wasn't offered one.

Just look at how misfortunate the last-two years have been for him: he was waived off by the eventual-championship Cavaliers in 2016, was signed by the Warriors who narrowly lost in a monumental upset in that year's finals, and he was waived by last year's Warriors who inexorably won the championship. I don't mind seeing him reap a consolatory ring for those reasons alone.

Yes. He did actually play in 2016 AGAINST the Cavs in The Finals though, so that situation was a little different. It would be hard to defend accepting a ring when you were on the losing team at the time of the championship.

Anderson Varejao won't accept a championship ring from Cavs if offered

The way I understand it, everyone in the organization is given a ring when a championship is won. That means the guys on the practice squad, front office... even the people that run concessions are given a faux ring for being a part of the ride.

With that in mind, I can't say I'm surprised he accepted.

He's not a champion. He's just getting a ring out of pity.

He really shouldn't though. He wasn't on the teams.

Happy for him, I don't see anything wrong with it. Damian Jones played the same amount of games as him and like 15 minutes more overall and got his ring.

He does deserve it. That's a situation you probably will never see again and I'm not sure if it's ever even happened before. Playing on both teams that made the finals the same year but ending on the losing team but then he gets cut from the winning team the following year. Maybe nobody outside of Cleveland fans see it. But the guy played hard, he knew his role and he also stayed loyal. As a Cavs fan, even though I knew it was for the betterment of the team and I knew he was a shell of his former self, it was a hard transaction to accept when we got rid of him.

If the team thinks he deserved it, then he deserves it.

No reason to mindlessly expound on the topic.

He cost the Warriors a title in 2016

After Bogut went down Varejao and Ezeli played some of the worst minutes at the 5...Look at their +/- totals compared to minutes played (https://www.basketball-reference.com...606190GSW.html)

Anderson Varejao: 8:29 minutes played, -9 plus/minus

Awful

I thought he did great in the 2016 finals. If the team had better leadership, he would've thrived, and we'd be talking about a Warriors 3-peat.

Varejao deserves a ring from the Cavs for his 2016 Finals performance. He definitely helped them win it.
