Default Is Brad Stevens the best asset in the NBA?

Including all players, coaches, and GMs? Stevens is only 41 years old and he could coach for 30 more seasons easily. I think Stevens can become the Bill Belichick of the NBA.

It’s arguable. Ainge is right there with him even if he is older.

If Embiid was healthy he’d be my pick...

Heís an amazing coach and asset, but this isnít Football. Iím still taking the top 10-15 players/prospects before I take any coach. Even a young, talented coach like Stevens.

If you were able to start a team with any one coach, player or GM you wanted, you'd pick Stevens? Sure, he's up there, but I can think of a handful "assets" I'd take before him.

Name them, I'm curious myself.

There aren't any game changing OMGGGGGGGGGG players that are just on the upstart of their career other than potentially Embiid... there aren't any coaches that are as good as Stevens other than Pop and he's old as dirt... and most GMs suck...

Giannis may be impressive but I don't see him as a game changing title winner as the clear cut man on his team unless he gets a jumper? Hopefully I'm wrong... would love to be.

So Stevens is arguably #1...

Stevens is the first person is basketball history to coach basketball and subsequently play basketball vicariously through his players.

So yeah. He runs away with that award.

Hate to sound like a homer, but Simmons & Giannis instantly come to mind. I'd take Curry over him too, his offensive skillset alone elevates the whole team to a point where any game is winnable. His game is definitely gonna age well, he'll always have the deadly quick release. I'm not sold on KP, KAT or Embiid yet. The impact of great coaches don't always workout long term because of how the team is built, look at the current situations of Carlisle and Budenholzer. Stevens is fortunate in this regard because Ainge put a strong team in front of him with great assets going forward as well. Tbh I'd take Kawhi, Durant & Harden over him too

Kyrie definitely deserves credit too. He is the best closer in the NBA just like Tom Brady is the best closer in the NFL. All of Belichick's Super Bowl wins came down to the final few minutes so he needed Brady to close. Stevens will need Kyrie to close just like he closed for Bran in game 7 of the Finals.

I know he was being sarcastic. He wrote that in order to imply that I wasn't giving Kyrie credit for the Celtics success.

so when the Warriors switched from Mark Jackson to Steve Kerr, it was because coaches do nothing...

a really bad coach can hold back a talented roster and a really good coach can maximize a weak roster.

this is applicable to all team sports: coaches are damn important. you say that because you have never played organized sport in your life.

You need great players to win chips. Jackson had 3 top 10 all time players. Pops probably done the most with the least to win a chip, and he still had Duncan for all his chips.

Stevens may be a GOAT level coach and never win a chip if he doesn't get the talent around him. Lebron, Durant, Curry give you the best shot to win now. Giannis, Simmons, AD for the next 10 or so years.
