Default San Antonio/Cleveland 7.9 rating lowest ever for a NBA Finals Game 1

As being reported by Dan Patrick on ESPNRadio.

Not good news for the NBA, people.

LeBron is not the 'Chosen One' after all.

Can't blame the Spurs on this one. The media has been all over LeBron James & the Cavs. So the Finals are basically marketed around him.

IMO, these are devastating numbers for the NBA and fans of the Cavaliers.

For all the talk about LeBron helping the NBA from a small market team was dealt a severe blow with these numbers.

The only way the NBA rating will go up is if a certain someone gets to the finals because people love to love him and love to hate him. He is the most controversial player in the league and can start a debate between total strangers.

In time he'll get there again, this time as the main man where he will make it his show.

The ratings will improve if the series becomes competitive. Who on earth wanted to watch that boring, sorry excuse for a game last night? I literally fell asleep.

i blame very very very poor marketing.

john starks made a thread on this and so did someone else i forgot but they pretty much explained that ABC rarely marketed the finals. even last week the only ads i saw were like 5 SECOND clips saying "Spurs/Cavs NBA FINALS GAME 1 on ABC" they didnt even say the freakin time and date. and the finals schedule was already made when the pistons/cavs were playing game 5, so its not like they didnt know the time and date.

absolutely horrible marketing. ESPN marketed the finals a little bit but why is ESPN marketing it when the game is on ABC!

ABC absulutely sucks. remember when the games were on NBC...there would be commercials every 20 minutes about playoff games and NBA Finals!

dont blame the spurs or cavs, blame ABC's horrid marketing and advertising.

Actually, it's much more simple than that. What will help the ratings is a big market team with a basketball history going to the finals. Boston, New York, and LA all have the backing of entire legions of people who dont care about the rest of the league, even people who live outside those areas. So if one of those teams go, you will see a spike in ratings. Sadly, they all suck.
