Default NBA Should Have Hard Salary Cap

Theres no competition in the league right now. Maybe 2 or 3 actual contenders in the league and a bunch of garbage teams with no chance. Get rid of this soft salary cap business and make it a hard salary cap for all the teams in the league so that teams cant stack up with 3 stars. The league will become so much more competitive and fun to watch. What do you guys think?

In a league with guaranteed contracts it's pretty much impossible to also have a hard cap. /thread.

Well it would force GMs to stop being dumb and overpay for "oozing potential" and "Tremendous upside"

But i think after a while it would make players move even more often.

I think teams should have a "half hard cap" where they would commit to a minimal guaranteed in salaries (the same for every team) and then another portion of the players salaries would be bonnuses depending of the individual and team results (Reaching playoff, title, All-nba, all-stars ...)

The fact that a team can commit more than 35% of its salary-cap to only one player means the "Cap" doesn't really have any sense and it's really detrimental to long-term building.

If you have 500- 700% tax over the cap. Teams wouldn't pay George Hill or Brook Lopez $20 mil a season

If there was no salary cap, the Knicks would be World Champs every year with the following players.

Lebron
Durant
Leonard
Anthony Davis
Kyrie
Curry
Klay
Porzingis
Harden
Antetokounmpo
Jokic

The NBA just needs to implement a hard cap and remove limitations on individual contracts.

Hard cap does nothing but guarantee billionaire owner's profit. Has very little do with leveling the playing field.

Remove the maximum contract, and make free agency a truly free market, and then you will see true parity.

Just do whatever needs to be done to make the league competitive again. If the players have a problem with it, they can go back to working for $9 hr as a bouncer at their favorite club.

This. Restricting free agents is bad for team building. Bird rights and other rules make it difficult to move players around.
