Default $$$ and stuff-- how important are they in your life?

some thoughts to prime the pump:
  • the usa is very materialistic; stuff/money seem to be more important than people at times
  • what place does vanity play when deciding to buy a new car?
  • we admire millionaires and envy them
  • we play the lottery so we can win the big one
  • always want to upgrade what we have never being satisfied with what is good enough
  • "keeping up with the joneses"
  • our personal debt and number of credit cards increases; fewer people actually save money
  • have you ever been inside a "petsmart"--- we are even materialistic for dogs and cats
  • how much money do people regularly give to charity/non profit organizations? not just reacting to disasters like katrina, but actually part of a generous lifestyle that shares ones resources

Welcome to 2007. We're not playing Little House on the Prairie anymore. Times have changed, and will continue to change. In today's world, it really is about having nice things. Once you get those "nice things" it's time to have nicer things than the next guy. We all want what everyone else has, and then once we get that, we want something better than what the next man has. That's human nature, especially in a land where one's bank accounts are king.

It's a sad reality, but its reality nonetheless. Get used to it.

there are actualy many people choosing alternative styles of living-- simple living

for example, there are many who are moving back into cities into smaller condos where once they lived in 4300 sq ft mcmansions in the suburbs

not spending hours of their lives in commuting. less space at home helps one buy less stuff

be more specific. do you seek to be able to eat other people and get away with it? do you want to become George of the Jungle and eat other animals?

or do you mean you can be above the law? lead an army? murder others and get away with it? have others fear you?

lofty goals.

money alone cannot do that for you.

you need charisma, leadership, and a lot of people to like and support you

anyway, back to Rainier:

people envy millionaires because rich people can not work very hard but enjoy themselvse at all times. ordinary people have to work everyday and then some just to make ends meet with little to no time for self-enjoyment.

I think you're wrong. Millionaires work their asses off. They're pretty much workaholics. It's just that their work isn't measured in picked apples or washed cars. Their work is done with brain. This doesn't go to all those Hollywood celeberties who get payd for showing their cute faces to photographers.

again, the assumption I made was that ordinary joes only believe that if they were to inherit milions of dollars, they would probably stop working and enjoy the money

vast majority of millionaires are people that worker harder and/or were smarter than vast majority of people. and they don't stop working even when they earn money that could support their grand-grand sons and daughters.
someone like bill gates or donaldd trump will NEVER retire unless in life threatening condition. that's the way millionaires are.

you inherit the fortune from relative you didn't know of? only in movies and fairy tales.
