Skita once dropped like 50 in summer league. Look where that got him.

If he does have a pretty nice offensive game, he would average more than 9 ppg in his final college season. So far, the only weapon he possesses on offense seems to be cut-in's.

I'm not sure if you're aware of what it takes to be a nice offensive player in the freakin' NBA. Trenton Hassell averaged 19 ppg in his senior season and people say that he has zero offensive game and the exact same thing can be said to the likes of Bruce Bowen, Adrian Griffin and Quinton Ross who're now being used strictly as defensive specialist as they aren't good to score a lot in the NBA where it's a lot more difficult to score than the NCAA. Greg Minor at least averaged 13 ppg, believe me, Balkman's offensive game will make Shandon Anderson look like Michael Jordan.

even if he is good, it doesn't change the fact that Isiah wasted the 20th pick in the draft on a guy he could have gotten in the 2nd round.

Human error - those were the general thoughts on Balkman... though not totally accurate. He actually does have a pretty nice offensive game - he can handle, moves very well without the ball, has a nice foul shot. He could also use some more upper body strength. The hustle comes as advertised, though.
I was replying to Handle the Rock calling stats irrelevent.

lol I didn't mean for you to get offended... that response sounds like you did. You even said, "I admit that I haven't seen him a lot, but judging from what I heard..." I was just explaining that a lot of what other people have been saying about Balkman is wrong. Now people are starting to come around, thankfully.
Recently, a lot of people have been judging Renaldo Balkman based on his stats... it is just not a good thing to do. If you would watch him play, there is really no debate that he has a pretty nice offensive game. Like i said, he can handle, he knows when and where to cut to the hoop, he finishes very well, and something that I did not mention is that he is very nice passer. In his first game he had a few great outlet passes, and in the second game he showed some nice interior passing ability.

Don't take what I said to mean that he will be a big offensive threat in the NBA... just think of it like this: he won't be Ben Wallace. He will be far from a liability on offense... like you actually said, he is an excellent finisher off cuts. That will be his bread and butter on offense.

All he did was dunk. Same thing he did in college. Guy has no handles nor can he create his own shot. His jumper isnt consistent and owns not many low post moves if that. He is a hustle player who thrives off cutting to the basket getting buckets, grabbing rebounds, blocking shots being active. Much like Jerome Williams outta GTown.

for a #20 pick whats wrong with that. He hustles rebounds and finishes, and looks like he could be a shut down defender. Plus i think he will be able to play really well off of marbury which is a rare quality. Balkman will have a better career than a lot of the top 19 picks imo. Isiah could have gotten him later but maybe he really thought someone else wanted him and didnt wwant to risk it.

He dunked, he also shot foul shots (where he showed a ery fluid stroke).
He did show a nice ability to handle the ball, though. Maybe people's standards are just higher than they need to be... he doesn't have a point guard's handle, he doesn't have Ray Allan's jumpshot, etc. What the guy has is a knack for knowing when to cut to the hoop, finishing very well, possessing a nice jumpshot within 14 feet of the hoop, good passing ability. Again, my thoughts are that he will be far from a liability on offense - he will be one of the best finishers on the team.

Because there were better talent at 20 then taking him. Real simple. Take him at 29 and take the better talent at 20.

No high standards at all. He is has areas to work on and time to improve. I dont think he is ready to contribute much his rookie season. But as of now what he provides or is for the most part is Jerome Williams. How he betters that is on him.

I didn't really like this pick at 20, but Isiah has a pretty good track record with drafting, so I have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully, he could turn out to be like Marion-lite, which is something this team sorely needs.

so if balkman turns out to be a rodman-type player which i. thomas projected him to be should he have still not taken him with 20. I like Williams as much as the next guy but there had to be some reason no body wanted him.

Also Balkman is way quicker than the junkyard and will be a lot better defenderin his career. Balkman also seems to have a better touch. And everytime i have watched him i have been impressed going back to his junior year.
