Default Rank the greatest finals shots of all time

1. Kyrie Irving 2016 NBA Finals Game 7
2. Ray Allen 2013 NBA Finals Game 6
3. MJ 1998 NBA Finals Game 6 series winning steal and shot
4. MJ 1997 NBA Finals Game 1 game-winner over Russell
5. MJ 1997 NBA Finals Game 5 go-ahead 3-pointer (flu game)
6. MJ 1991 NBA Finals Game 3 game-tyer
7. .....
8. .....
9. .....
10. .....

LeBron needed teammates to win 2 of his 3 rings (which just so happen to be the biggest shots in Finals NBA history) While MJ handled a majority of his business himself when it was all on the line.

Not even close. Game was already won for #1 and #2 based on the score. What Lebron did wouldn't have mattered. He's incapable of hitting a game winner/tyer on his own when he's team isn't already up. He's just a 6 time finals loser is all.

You...dont seem to remember very many huge shots in history...not that this topic is actually about history. Its about one player you seem obsessed with. But still...Magics baby hook to win in 87 is behind a game 3 tying shot? Steve Kerr, John Paxson, and Vinnie Johnson hit shots to win titles directly. Not even going into the old days here....

And how is a shot to take the lead in a tie game with a minute to go bigger than a 5 seconds left shot while losing...to win the title?

Jordan in 98 to me...has to be ahead of a shot that just...forces an OT hoping for a game 7. Jordan won the ring with a steal and shot.

Vinnie won the ring with a shot.

And Kerr.

Shots that win rings>shots that force OT.

Yes this is about history. Feel free to make your own top 10 list.... I'd LOVE to see it. But yes.. let's pretend that the GOAT making shots that sealed a legacy that ultimately resulted in a 3 peat repeat are not arguable as belonging in slots 3-6. You expose yourself as biased by only commenting on my list but not commenting on the laughable mention of LeBron's FT and LeBron's 2013 shot.

Jordan's shot was in a game 6 so there was still a massive margin of error even if he misses...a whole games worth of plays. Kyries came at a stalemate point in a game 7 of an epic series.

Rays shot was also much more than just a shot to force OT. they were down and that shot completely flipped the series momentum. It basically did win them it.

Kyrie '16 Finals Game 7
Allen '13 Finals Game 6

These are a lock as #1 and #2.

Cavs victory first time in history right in the best 3 point shooters eye = #1... it's not close.

After Lebron' 2011 colossal fvck up, his legacy was on the line. The difficulty and beauty of Allen's shot not only saved LeBron's legacy, but it came right after LeBron bricking a shot and holding his hands up as if anyone was going to pass it to him again with the game on the line. #2 lock. Hands down.

Slots 3-6 can be argued, but you'll be hard pressed seeing as how they ultimately resulted in a 3 peat repeat.

No matter how you slice it however, LeBron come out as a clear loser in all this. Just another fun fact of NBA history.

Too much logic in this post. Not enough for this board to handle.

You think im saying Jordans shot should be lower?

Im saying...I dont know how a shot to tie game 6 of the finals and force OT is higher than a shot to....win a title.

Im saying there is no sense to the OP.

If the point is Jordan>Lebron why would you rank Jordans steal and title winning shot while down behind a shot to tie a game?

How are 4-5 title winning shots behind a shot to force OT?

Except it in fact...did not win them anything.

It forced an OT in game 6. An OT and 4 more quarters were played.

Jordans shot....put his team from behind...to leading...to win the title.

We actually putting extending a series over winning it?

Jordan's team wasn't behind...they were up an entire game. Miami was down 3-2 playing the free throw game because they were down like 6 points with 20 something seconds left with 50/1 odds of losing the whole thing.

I didn't realize I had to spell out all the factors for putting together a list. There is sense. You apply context. You might as well say that there's no sense in making a top 10 player all time ranking list then. Yet people do it all the time.

In no particular order:

Difficulty
Circumstances
When and how it happened
Was a legacy saved
What lasting effect did it have
What was the score at the time of the shot

A shot that forces OT that ultimately results in a win is exactly that. A chain reaction that led up to the win. You can't just dismiss it as begin a lesser shot because it didn't result in a win then and there. There's context to be had. However if a shot is made by an individual when the team is already up in points due to team contribution, how the hell is that the equivalent to a shot made by an individual that is made that is REQUIRED to win? It's not.
