Default Top Five You Actually Watched

The purpose of this thread is to be honest about what you have witnessed. Tell us when you started paying attention to the NBA, and then give a top five, ten, or whatever you want of only players you were actually watching while they were dominating.

I'll start. Technically I watched MJ as a kid, but I was young. Not only did I not know anything about the game, but I didn't really care. I just watched the Bulls if my brother or one of my uncles had a game on. I just loved MJ. He was like a super hero, but he was real. I felt like he would never fail, and I never saw him do it.. Plus I didn't watch any teams other than the Bulls and whomever they were playing. So basically, I watched it, but don't count it for the purposes of this ranking... although elsewhere I would still say Jordan is the GOAT because of what I learned as I studied the history of the game years later.

I began watching the game as a real basketball fan only in the 2002/03 season. I didn't give a f*ck about watching pro sports at all until that point, but from that point on I've been pretty much glued to it. So the bottom line is that my ranking here is based in a world where nothing before the '03 season even happened. So for example, even though I know Shaq was a god for the 3peat, he exists in my world as great for maybe three years, then washed up.

Anyway... in my opinion, based only on '03-present:

1. Kobe Bryant

2. Tim Duncan
3. Kevin Durant
4. LeBron James

5. Stephen Curry
6. Kevin Garnett
7. Dirk Nowitski

8. Dwyane Wade
9. Shaquille O'Neal

The parts I grouped together are mostly interchangeable. Sometimes I am convinced LeBron has been greater than Duncan was. Today I would pick Duncan. They are basically equal but different to me. The only thing I am sure of is that Kobe is the best.

Good list, but please tell us when you began watching basketball. This is a thread for story telling.

The 1st games I can remember seeing were the 89 playoffs aside from random rocket games here and there, i was more into football at that time. But yeah, i remember watching Mj vs the bad boys as my 1st real nba memory. Became a bigger fan year by year from there collecting nba hoops, skybox, and upperdeck cards while becoming the biggest Jordan stan i knew. Anyhow I've been a hardcore fan since, watching the entirety of the bulls playoff run to the present. My list of with my own eyes:

1)MJ (was amazing and inspirational to the imagination, even to the point middle aged men still worship him like 12 year olds )
1)Lebron (can literally do anything you can imagine on the basketball court)
3)Dream (was way ahead of his time)
4)Kobe (parade brand Mj, was my fix after Mj retired for a bit)
4)Shaq (he was freaking Shaq)

**as a kid Magic didn't do it for me as i was a young kid stuck on points per game. i didn't really grow a proper appreciation for him and Bird till i gota bit older and understood the game deeper. Tmac, Penny, and Brandon Roy are the ultimate what if guys. I hated to see their careers not play out healthy.

Started in 1980.

Jordan
Bird
Kareem
Magic

_____________

That's the first 4. 5th place I'm not sure. Peak? Then Shaq. Entertainment value? Kobe easily. Then Hakeem. Best as in I don't really like his game but probably the best? LeBron, I think. A career I'd like for myself? Duncan.

So for 5th place I can't really decide.

Hakeem
Kobe
Shaq
LeBron
Duncan

I started in '87 right at Magic's peak. In no order the top 5 players I have watched are...

Magic
Jordan
Shaq
Lebron
Duncan

(Hakeem and Kobe are right there also. I didn't include Bird because he was no longer "peak Bird"when I started paying real attention to him.)
