Based on his skill and contribution to the sport - no

But I wouldn't be mad if he was in. I think his circumstances were unique enough that it's not easily replicable.

You know I've often thought about this. Ive forgotten most of the games ive seen, most of the plays you forget. But one that always stands out is may 26th 2002 Horry buzzer beater against the Kings might be the most memorable shot of my lifetime. The last time my entire family was alive and together we all watched that game. HOF standards are strange and Ive never understood how they judge what makes a player a Hall of Famer. By the standards that I imagined would be HOF worthy, Robert Horry doesnt qualify. But I think given some of the past inductees he absolutely qualifies. Is there a set standard of checkmarks to make the HOF? No one has ever been able to explain to me how they judge who is HOF worthy.

Hall of Famers are all-time greats. Role players aren't all-time greats.

Exactly. If we let Robert Horry in it really becomes a slippery slope. Who is next? Derek Fisher? I just think Horry has an amazing resume and lets face it, every great team needs great role players. He was not only vital he was a major contributor to victory for multiple franchises. But as the post above stated, it should be reserved for the elites of every era. At least that's what I imagined it should be but thats not how it works if you look at some of the inductees its questionable. Robert Horry was never elite. Hes not HOF by the standards in my head but again, there are some questionable inductees.

As it pertains to players, it's someone with exceptional skills in basketball (relative to their peers I assume) or someone who contributed significantly to the sport (like Yao Ming).

hes not just any role player.. He is the GOAT role player. San Antonio recruited him for his pension for winning in the post season. There isnt a single non-celtic with more rings than him.

The GOAT role player is still a role player not one of the all-time great players. It's ridiculous to think a non all-star that didn't even show up until after all-star breaks is a HOFer just because he was on a lot of great teams.

Yes, yes, every Laker fan would ALWAYS remember that last second 3pt shot but set aside that shot along with 3 or 5 more clutch shots like that and examine his overall numbers.
7 pts, UNDER 5 REBOUNDS, 2 assists per game, 1107 games total, PER OF 13.4, average player would have 16. Not much better in the playoffs. Would he even have any rings if he didn't have great teammates?
Another thread asking if Penny should be in the HOF, the guy has really good numbers and I can't help to wonder if MJ never returned and if Nick Anderson hit those FTs.
If there's such a thing as HOF role player, then yes. but if none, then hell no.

Obviously not but he has just about the best legacy of a player of his ability and numbers.

He has 7 rings, more than 99.9% of NBA players and has several often replayed clutch shots in big games. And also played on some the most iconic franchises, greatest teams of all-time and under some of the best coaches.

It doesnt get much better than that for a role player.

He was an effective role player with ice in his veins.
He has a number of historic big shots to his name.
He also has more rings than the average retiree could only dream of.

But his individual accolades/stats are shit house compared to those in the HOF.
