Man, f*ck all you guys down under. I've been waiting to see this movie since April when I first heard about it, at least I only have 3 more days until I go. They also have a Transformers 2 in the works as well slated for a 2009 release.

Another great looking movie coming this week is Rescue Dawn, it's about an American soldier (Christian Bale) and his friend (Steve Zahn) who get captured and become POW's in Vietnam. It looks great but unfortunately is going to have limited release in the US. IMDB link if you are interested: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462504/

Sneak ran in US on Thursday. My record shop is connected to teh lobby and the response has been overwhelmingly popular. Several people I trust quite abit as cynical movie-goers considered it one of the best action pics they've ever seen.

So my expectations are high.

Oh yeah, Rescue Dawn looks very good. Big fan of not only Bale, but Zahn also. Been wanting to see this movie as soon as I saw the trailer. I got a cool poster for it hanging on my wall at home (the poster they show on IMDB). Can't say I'm too familiar with Werner Herzog though.

Another movie that looks badass, with Christian Bale, is "3:10 to Yuma". Bale and Russell Crow star in this western. Looks very cool, and intense. Directed by the same guy who did "Walk the Line", "Girl, Interrupted", and "Cop Land".

As for Transformers, I'm about as excited as the next person. I'll definitely see it, but I'm no fanboy. I'm a fan of Shia LeBeouf. Micheal Bay, not so much...

It's been a big few weeks at the theaters. Ratatouille is doing very well (as it should, splendid film). Die Hard 4 is big with the crowds. Pirates 3, Shrek 3, Ocean's 3, Fantistic Four 2 - all still lingering around. Even 1408 is doing ok.

It's about damn time. I love westerns and there hasn't been a really good one since Unforgiven. Tombstone was bad ass but just didn't "feel" like a true western to me.

I'm pretty sure that one's been and gone in Australia too. I'm actually quite liking what movie companies are doing down in Aus nowadays. Using us as a testing ground for movies that they think may not make big dollars in the US. Although some of them are pure crap like Dead Or Alive or whatever that crappy video game movie was called.

Thanks a f*cking lot for the spoiler.

People don't like Michael Bay because his characters rarely have any depth and he focuses more on action than making a connection with audience.

I saw this movie last night. Actually built up the "print" at my theater. Attached trailer was the "JJ Abrams Movie" or something, didn't catch all of it.

I thought it was ok. Not a "disappointment" or anything, but not downright righteous. I have a feeling it's going to be one of the more overrated movies of the year. Having said that, I'll take it over Spiderman 3 or Pirates 3.

I'll just say that I definitely believe Bay when he says this movie was made for young teenagers. The humor, dialogue, and some of the plot is cheesy, lowbrow. But I guess that was to be expected.

Shia LeBeouf is still funny, carried the movie in terms of human performances. John Turturro, though one of my favorite actors and supporting actors, was borderline overacting. That chick (forgot her name) had nothing really going for her, other than that she was hot as fire. Bernie Mac "Bernie Mac'd it" as usual. John Voight was pretty average.

The CGI was nothing short of outstanding. I read in WIRED magazine that it took roughly fourty hours to render every frame in this movie. I believe it.

Overall, I'd give "Transformers" an 8/10. 8.5/10 if I'm feeling nice. People actually clapped when it ended, which made me chuckle a bit. It wasn't *that* good... in my opinion of course... Probably clapping more out of loyalty than anything. I'd certainly welcome a sequel.

Hopefully when I see this on Tuesday I can catch that JJ Abrams trailer or whatever it is, I really like all the work that he has put out.

That is incredible. Digital video has 29.97 frames per second and film has 24 frames per second, I don't know what Bay filmed on but either way that is thousands upon thousands of hours of labor making everything perfect. If he filmed in digital thats roughly 1200 hours for one measly second of footage

Yeah, that is crazy. In the article, they were saying how they put all sorts of processors to the maximum at whatever special effects company, forget the name. The issue of WIRED has Optimus on the cover... I presume that they were talking about every frame of film that involved a robot, as there were plenty of scenes that had little to no special effects. They went on to say that these robots had all sorts of schematics and internal designs and whatnot. Basically, they went all out to make them look incredible.
