They should play a game up to 34 for the jersey number.

NBA can have it on pay per view like that supposed match between Shaq and Hakeem in 1995 (sponsered by Taco Bell).

Yeah thats probably what is going to happen if it was a lesser player than Ray than he would have probably kept the #.

Only time a player will usually give their number to another player is when its a rookie/scrub giving it up to a well known all star. Pierce isn't giving it up to Allen

In all seriousness there should be no reason why Pierice would have to submit his number to newcomer Ray Allen. Yes much like PP, Ray is a premier player in the NBA and has been for the majoprity of his professional career but in no way has his time in the NBA been any more spectactular then Paul Pierce's.
If anything they have shared an equivalent amount success but niether is overly superior then his counterpart...

It would be a completely different story if someone with the status of a Hakeem was coming over from a trade. In a case such as that could there be a valid debate over rights to a uni number but not between Ray + PP...

It's common respect to change your number when you go to a new team if someone there has your number. You don't walk in and tell someone else to change theirs.

Why would anyone think that Pierce, who's worn 34 in Boston his entire career and will quite clearly have it retired there, would change his number?
