Vince Carter, 30, averaged 25.2 points per game in the 2006-07 season.
Vince Carter opted out of his Nets contract Friday, according to league sources, and will be free to test the market as of Sunday. But Carter isn’t expected to leave New Jersey.
Multiple league sources said the All-Star shooting guard could agree on a new deal with the Nets as early as Sunday, the first day teams are allowed to negotiate with players.
Nothing, however, can be announced until July 11, when the moratorium is lifted.
Carter had until June 30 to opt out of a deal that was going to pay him $16.3 million for the upcoming season, and was expected to do so. According to sources, the proposed deal with the Nets will be worth between $60 million and $65 million over four years.
Calls to Carter’s agent, Kurt Schoeppler, weren’t immediately returned.
cats have jrich...pretty similar to carter. why would you want to tie up so much money in two players who can break down anytime and play the same position?
If the Bobcats and Warriors deal did not happen yesterday i see Carter coming to Charlotte.
I say it is a bad move in the part of the Charlotte Bobcats when they drafted Brandan Wright and trade him to an injury prone Jason Richardson. When they can sign guys like Vince Carter who is a much explosive scorer than J-Rich. The Cats have one of the luxurious salary cap this season and they might again re-sign Gerald Wallace a much better player than their incoming sophomore Adam Morrisson who is a defensive liability.
I'd rather have Josh Howard.....not as good on the offensive side, but getting better and much better team player and defensive stopper....not too mention toughness and younger legs.......I wouldnt give Carter 16 1/2 million per...id spend the money elsewhere for players that give you more than an highlight package.....
Why would Dallas do that ? And why would NJ for that matter ?
Dallas need a better perimeter threat than Terry and Josh, both are extremely inconsistent. Carter can keep defenses off Dirk, something Terry and Howard cannot do.
Nets would do it because they get two decent players and could target a Garnett deal involving Jefferson and Terry
