If you're the Spurs and you had to choose one of these swingmen for the next season, who would it be?... Or, which one would you take just in general?
Mind you, we're talking about NBA basketball, not a dunk competition, so don't be too quick to choose White.
I believe both players averaged the most points for their respective teams in their last year of college ball. Both players are around 6-7, Small Forwards. Both have fairly good upside, and if they stay Spurs they'll be with a disciplined group and staff. Both are offensively inclined, but neither have a three point shot down pact. White seems like the more capable defender, while Williams seems like the better scorer/playmaker.
I'll admit, I'm no "expert" on either of these players (though I know more about White), hence the reason I made this thread. Who would you choose, if you had to pick one?
the guy who plays the best defense will get the spot. marcus williams seems like the guy who has the most potential. from what i have heard he is a good defender...when he wants to be. this will be a problem if he takes plays off. pop will bench him quick and he will likely be in the doghouse giving james white more playing time.
james white from what i have seen from him really wants to succeed and he does whatever is asked of him. he is a capable defender and this one year advantage in the spurs system will allow him to get much more minutes than marcus williams.
i dont expect marcus williams to get much, of any, playing time this year. he will do what james white did this past year and just sit and study.
Marcus is a SG and James White a SF. Dont see why Spurs cant keep both. Not like Tiago Splitter or Scola are coming over anytime soon. Plus they have old players on thier team...why get rid of youth? Marcus is obviously better and might end up a "steal" because last year he would have gone first round if not lottery. Had an off season this past but Michael Redd did and guess what? Went 2nds round after one year prior being projected as a lottery pick.
