Default The Atlantic...The Winners...The Losers...Who has it?

Well it is coming to the free agency point of the off season so what is your views on each team....Will New York re-emerge as a Atlantic winner? Will healthy Nets win the Atlantic? With Allen on the Celts, will they emerge on top? Will the Raptors stand their ground and defend their crown? Any thoughts?

If all healthy:

1. Nets (4)
2. Raptors (5)
3. Celtics (8)
4. Knicks
5. Sixers

Playoff seeds in brackets.

Nets I think will take it if healthy. If they aren't healthy it will be the Raps.

If the Nets were healthy last year then they probably would've won it. I think they still have 1 or 2 "division favourite" years left.

If the Nets are healthy they will have a slightly better chance than the Raps to get it. If not healthy they Raps will get it, Boston will either end up 2nd or 3rd.

Raps had injury problems as well. And Ford, Bargnani, and Bosh are just getting better.

It'll be close.

Honestly, I thought New Jersey would do better...but the thing is, Toronto's bench is a lot better than New Jersey's but New Jerseys starters has the edge on our Raps....So I think it will be tight...

Starters:

PG-Kidd VS Ford-Kidd is better on most levels than TJ...but Kidd is getting a little older and TJ is reaching his prime and is a much faster PG...I would give it to Kidd though...

SG-Carter VS Parker-Vince obviously has it offensively but doesn't have the defensive skills Parker has. Even though Parker is a good player though, I think Vince takes it in the long run...

SF-Kapono VS Jefferson-Offensively this one is tight.....You might disagree with me but think about it, when Kapono gets going, he is quite the shooter....49% shooter last year....But Jefferson is the slasher so i would give this to Jefferson...

PF-Bosh VS Moore-Obviously Bosh wins this, but Moore's offensive skills are improving...

C-Rasho VS Krstic-This one is tight because defensively Rasho has the experience on the young one....But Krstic has it offensively....When Rasho can get the ball, he can actually be a force...so even though most will disagree, I will say Rasho on this one...

Bench:

Toronto's bench has more depth than New Jersey's by far....

First off to give the edge to Rasho is crazy. With Garbojsa and Bargs healthy, Rasho barely plays 20 mins this season, I would guess. Nenad will probably put up 17 and 7 next year. He is better than your starting center, unless Bargs learns to rebound and play D (which Nenad can)

Next, The Nets bench outplayed the Raptors in the playoffs in my mind. In fact part of the reason the Raps struggled was because Mitchell did not shorten the rotation. Throughout the course of the regular seeason, I give the edge to TO but not by far.. no way. The Nets added a draft pick who addresses a major need, the Raps did not. The Nets youth (Marcus, Wright, Boone) should improve as well. Alot also depends on whether or not Moore is resigned.

Either way the Nets are a team that play better during the playoffs then the regular season. That's what happens when you're best player and leader has to pace himself. Thus I do think the Raps may take the division, but it should be close. If they meet in the playoffs however, I see the same thing happening. The Raptors did not address their lack of rebounding or defense. Those are pretty big needs.

ATL

Toronto

NJ

NY - NY has more depth than Boston. I made a bet with a coworker last year the Knicks finish higher than the Celts and they did. My reasoning.. the Knicks can withstand an injury at each position and to each player and not lose much talent. Boston cannot.. w/o PP, Allen or Jefferson the C's go back to losing.

Boston

Philly

I think the Raptors will come out on top this year, considering how amazing they played after their slow start. However, there are a lot of rumors of the Knicks, Celtics, and Nets going after some pretty good players, and if any of these teams acquire KG or anybody close to his talent, than they immediately become the favorites.

the Nets, when healthy have shown they can get within ~50 or so wins. that should be enough to win the Atlantic.

the big question is (whether or not the Atlantic suddenly becomes respectable) if the Raptors can prevent any honeymoon period and continue their winning ways to another level and get 50+ wins as well (i think they are capable, but with Sam Mitchell and Joey Graham..?)

moreover, can Al Jefferson finally become the 28/13 big man he was against the Nets on a more consistent basis against the whole league?

and the Knicks may have a big scoring frontline, but Isiah really needs to get defensive minded assistant coaches to drill a defensive identity into the Knicks or else they are merely a .500 team

Did New York have their best three players injured for significant portion of the season?

The funny thing is, TO only really had a couple players at most with playoff experience while New Jersey's big 3 have had experience past 1st round for more than a couple years....Plus, with Toronto, Rasho is still a good center, he averaged over a block per game and also brought energy to the floor when he got going....He got going when they gave him the ball...he is also a good rebounder....Sam Mitchell is not a great coach and I don't think he deserved that coach of the year and the contract extension...they need a veteran coach which knows what they are doing....

I believe all were injured or suspended for 10 or more games each last season. Many of them played through injury as well (Marbury, Francis, Q)

And that was my reasoning exactly. The Knicks are extremely deep and talented (though admittedly not very good), the Celtics were not very deep and talented. Going into the season, their 2nd best player was Wally who had a history of injuries, and Al Jeff was an unkown. I knew that if anything happened to PP, they were horrendous. That is exactly what happened. That is why depth helps, esp. in the regular season.
