Euroleague Profile

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z7xVT5tWBI

NBA Comparison: Pete Maravich
Strengths: Arguably the best European guard prospect since Drazen Petrovic, if not better ... Has a natural feel for the game that very few posses, especially at such a young age ... Used to dominate at Spanish and even European U16 level ... Incredibly dominant scorer ... Has that ability, much like Ginobili, to find a way to the basket regardless what the defense does ... Shows tremendous creativity in a multitude of ways, especially passing and scoring ... Virtually unstoppable in one-on-one situations ... Ambidextrous, can dribble and drive with either hand. But has some problems finishing with the left hand ... Maintains great balance in the air, which is less typical for European guards ... He can penetrate, receive the foul and still finish ... A strong rebounder ... Grabs rebounds under his own basket and goes coast to coast, much like Jason Kidd ... Has nice court vision, very good at finding a teammate on the fast break ... A "scorer-passer": draws two or three defenders and dishes it out to the open man, but can also find people under the basket ... Takes good care of the ball, doesn't turn the ball over as much as you would expect from a player his age, especially considering his creativity ... Extremely mature for his age, and clutch. He lives for pressure situations ... Has quick hands, always going for the steal ... Impressive man-to-man defender ... Has soild leaping ability ... Great physical characteristics, long arms and big hands ... He might grow another inch or two ... Great size for a point guard at 6-4, anyway.

Weaknesses: Streaky shooter, lacks a consistent shot from the three point line ... Hit only .200 of his three pointers at the U16 Euros 2006 ... Free throw shooting is solid at 71.8, but should improve ... Too "Kobe-esque" at times, tries to go 1 on 4, which works most of the times on Cadet level but certainly not on ACB or NBA level ... Not a real "floor general" yet, somewhat static in organizing plays in half court. His strength is in the fast break … Unless he grows another few inches, he’ll need to focus on better developing his point guard skills … Sometimes gambles too much for steals on defense ... Needs to get stronger; since he is only 175 pounds ... Could use another 15-20 pounds of muscle ... Still completely unproven on the senior level ...

Notes: Made his pro debut on October 15, 2005, becoming the youngest ever to play in Spain's ACB at merely 14 years of age ... Won the MVP Award at the 2006 U16 European Championships after arguably the most dominant performance in tournament history, leading the competition in points, rebounds, assists and steals. Scored 51 points, grabbed 24 rebounds and dished out 12 assists in the 110-106 finale victory over Russia ... First player to score 50+ points in FIBA Europe Youth competition since Luol Deng scored 50 for England in a 90-97 Qualifying Round loss versus Turkey on August 1, 2001 ... Signed through the 2011 season with DKV Joventut Badalona ... Made his Euroleague debut on October 24, 2006, versus Panathinaikos Athens.

Stefan Lorenz - 8/28/2006

NBA Postion:Shooting Guard Class:Sophomore

High School:Episcopal Academy

6. Tyreke Evans

Physicals
Height: 6' 4"
Weight: 195 lbs.
Birthday: Circa 1990
Teams:
High School: American Christian School
Current Team: American Christian School , HS Senior
Positions:
Current: PG/SG,
NBA: PG/SG,
Possible:

The player hailed by many to be king of the class of 2008 was incredibly disappointing in his matchup with fellow top five member Greg Monroe, scoring only 11 points. It was clear that we were looking at a shooting guard playing the point guard position, as Evans looked to score first and second, then pass third. He showed some very poor shot selection early in the game, but it did improve slightly as the game went on. His selfishness and lack of any type of real feel for the game is pretty concerning when you consider how many Team Final possessions ended with only Evans touching the ball.

It was clear that Tyreke did have some skills, as he showed off a nice outside jumper and was very crafty once he got inside of the paint. It was just unfortunate that a player who is as talented of a scorer as he is is relegated to playing the point guard position when he would be much better suited off of the ball. The Philadelphia sophomore may have won the game against Greg Monroe, but he definitely lost the battle as to who was the number one player in the class of 2008 in our eyes.

Special scorer on the wing. Must watch to see if he develops into a point guard down the road. Goes on big runs from down. Excellent finisher because he understands how to use his body.

Biography:

Scouting Athletic, hard working, "special talent" are some of the early accolades he's earned from local observers. Multiple positions, perimeter ability and scoring in bunches are what he's already displayed. Smooth, with a tremendous feel and passing ability.

Soph: Named to AP All-State Class A first team. Averaged 25.4 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 5.3 apg, 3.8 spg, (80.6% FT, 48% 3pt)

FR Already off to a great start. Routinely goes for 20+ and has delivered on his considerable reputation. Scout.com views him as the top freshman in the country.

nbadraft is a bunch of idiots. They have D.J. Augustin in the 2nd round, Eric Maynor as the 3rd to last pick, and no Scottie Reynolds in either the 08 or 09 mocks. They have no idea what they're talking about...

DJ Augustin will have a very hard time making it to the NBA, in my opinion. Maynor will need another stellar tournament to make it to the first round.

Augustin is a for sure first rounder this year if he comes out, barring a huge collapse this year

We also have a 14 yrs.old Fil-American who will be making waves in the USA in the near future. His Name is Bobby Parks Jr.

Parks’ son dreams of playing for RP 5
By Joaquin Henson

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Seven-time PBA Best Import awardee Bobby Parks’ Fil-Am son Ray is growing up to be just like his celebrated father and dreams of someday playing for the Philippine national team.

Ray, 14, stands 6-3, weighs 178 pounds and averages 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Ridgeway Middle School varsity in Memphis. He was the youngest player invited to play in the recent three-day, 17-and-under Las Vegas Easter Classic and stood out in the tournament.

Ray is one of Parks’ four children. The eldest is Quincy, 25, and lives in Bolivar, Tennessee. Parks, 45, had a brief relationship with a black American woman when he played at Memphis State and sired Quincy. Then, Parks had two children, Ray and 11-year-old Celine Ira, with Marifer Celine (Shane) Barbosa, a Filipina now living in Los Angeles.

Today, Parks lives in Memphis with Filipina wife, Jasmine, and Ray. Jasmine’s daughter from a previous relationship stays with them. Parks’ son with Jasmine, Montell, 6, lives in Manila. Jasmine is an activity therapist while Parks owns a transportation business and conducts basketball camps in Memphis.

Ray, whose godfathers are PBA Hall of Famer Norman Black and former Ateneo cager Bobby Rius, said he learned to play when he was five in his father’s hoop school in Manila. Ray lived in Parañaque and studied at the International Christian Academy up to Grade 7 then moved to Memphis last year. He is advancing to Grade 9 at Ridgeway next schoolyear.

After playing in the Amateur Athletic Union this summer, Ray plans to visit Manila with his father. He is being invited to try out for the Ateneo varsity team by Black, the Blue Eagles coach.

“It would be nice to play in the Philippines,” said Ray. “I definitely want to go to college either in the US or the Philippines. I don’t know what to do yet. It would be an honor to someday play for the Philippine team. My dad would love to see me play for the national team.”

Black said he has seen Ray play on tape. “He shoots better than Bobby,” said Black. “I think he’ll be a great player. Of course, I’d like him to play for Ateneo but I leave it up to Ray and Bobby. The level of competition is certainly higher in the US and if Ray is invited to play for a big school, I’ll encourage him to go for it.”

Ray’s hero is his father. He wears No. 22 – like his father did – and said he hopes to win a lot of championships – like his father did – and gain the respect his father did as a winner.

“The two things I learned most from my dad are dribbling and shooting,” said Ray. “My dad’s more athletic and jumps higher than me but I’ve got a better jump shot and handles. Plus, I can play one, two and three. I’m like a mixture of LeBron (James) and Carmelo (Anthony).”

Ray said playing for Memphis State, where his 45-year-old father starred, would be a challenge because the players are bigger in NCAA Division I than even in the PBA.

“My dad thinks I have a very bright future because most of the guys my size and age in the US can’t handle the basketball and shoot as well as I can,” he said. “He was happy with my trip to Vegas where I was the only 14-year-old invited to play with 17-year-olds and I held my own.”

Ray said he watches the NBA hometown team Memphis Grizzlies play as often as he can. “They mostly need a good center and one leader,” said Ray. “By the way, I play for Mike Miller’s traveling team. In the NBA, my idols are Carmelo and Michael Jordan. And in the PBA, my idols are my dad and Jimmy Alapag.”

Ray speaks Tagalog fluently and said he misses his Filipino relatives in Parañaque and Makati. “I would like to give a shout-out to my family in the Philippines and my close friends,” he said. “Ingat kayo, mga kababayan ko!”

Shout-out from Parks’ son
SPORTING CHANCE By Joaquin M. Henson
The Philippine Star 05/10/2007

Seven-time PBA Best Import awardee Bobby Parks’ son Ray sent an email from Memphis the other day to say he’s doing fine playing basketball and missing his Filipino relatives.

Ray seems on the way to becoming a Fil-Am superstar. He turned only 14 last Feb. 19 and now stands 6-4, give or take an inch. From the way he’s growing, Ray could shoot up to 6-8 – way taller than his dad who was listed a generous 6-5 in US college basketball record books.

Bobby, 45, was a star at Memphis State and played for the Tigers varsity that went to the NCAA Sweet 16 thrice. He was picked on the third round by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1984 NBA draft where the top five picks, in order, were Hakeem Olajuwon, Sam Bowie, Michael Jordan, Sam Perkins and Charles Barkley.

Bobby was the 58th player of 228 chosen in the draft. Among the players who were selected after him were Rick Carlisle, Bob Thornton, Eddie Wilkins, Butch Hays and Ken Bannister. Wearing his trademark No. 22, Bobby played for the Hawks in the NBA preseason but was cut before the regular campaign started.

Bobby made his PBA debut for San Miguel Beer in 1987 then saw action for Shell up to 1998, finishing his 12-year career with nearly 9,000 points, over 3,000 rebounds and more than 1,000 assists in 220 games. In 1989, he averaged a whopping 52.6 points in 23 games with a high of 72.

Ray’s email was written in both English and Filipino, like a true Fil-Am. Here’s what he said:

"My name is Bobby Ray Parks, Jr. but my close friends call me Ray. I am originally from the Philippines.

"Ako ay tumira sa Pilipinas ng eight to nine years. I speak Tagalog fluently. I am about 6-3 or 6-4 and I play all positions but I prefer to play the shooting guard or small forward (positions).

"Ako ngayon ay tumitira sa Memphis, Tennessee. I’ve been staying here for a year. I average about 25 points a game and around seven rebounds and five assists. I just turned 14 last Feb. 19 and I weigh about 178 pounds.

"There is a lot more competition here in Memphis. I’m a lefty and I can handle, shoot, post up and dunk. Also, I wear a size 14 shoe. I attend Ridgeway Middle School and I’m in the eighth grade going to ninth. I hope to play in the NBA or PBA someday. That’s after I finish college.

"I would want to give a shout-out to my family in the Philippines and my close friends. Ingat kayo, mga kababayan ko, mga taga-Parañaque at Makati."

Ray’s Filipina mother Shane was Bobby’s first wife. Bobby is remarried to another Filipina, Jasmine.

He might be the first ever Filipino to make it in the NBA in a few years from now.

He's 5-10 and hasn't really shown anything outside his penetration skills that warrants a first round pick.

Quote:

Greg Monroe is one of the hottest names on the summer circuit, and had a chance to prove himself against incumbent class of 2008 top dog Tyreke Evans and a loaded Team Final squad.. It may be hasty to come to any definitive conclusions about such a young prospect, but Greg Monroe was clearly the best prospect on the floor this afternoon.

At 6'10, Monroe is a freak athlete, gliding up and down the floor and getting off his feet incredibly quick. He looks great with the ball in his hands in the open floor, and his first step was good enough to get past whatever Team Final big man was attempting to guard him. His handle needs work, particularly with his much weaker right hand (his off hand), but one gets the feeling that it is only a matter of time before he is operating comfortably on the perimeter. But Monroe is far from your typical perimeter-oriented big man that shies away from contact in the paint. He can certainly bring more consistent effort on the block, but displays great footwork and the ability to create his own shot in a multitude of ways. He appears to be equally comfortable with his back to or facing the basket. Monroe is a phenomenal shot blocker, showing great timing, long arms, and incredibly quick leaping ability. In this game, Team Final apparently didn’t prepare for his ability to alter shots, and continued to drive blindly into his reach. Monroe ended the game with at least 7 blocks, and altered countless others.

While the early review on Monroe is largely positive, it should be mentioned that his development curve is just beginning. Like many young bigs, Monroe still tends to focus on his immediate space when it comes to defense and loose balls, and clearly gets down the floor much more quickly on the offensive end than on defense. His hands are remarkable once he is executing a scoring move, but look a bit weaker when he is corralling a pass or going after a loose ball. Due to this and his insistence on operating on the perimeter, Monroe committed at least eight turnovers in this game. Body strength is an issue as well, though he is further along than plenty of big men at this stage. His footwork and understanding of how to get his shot off near the basket is outstanding, but he missed a lot of very makeable shots today. Experience and polish will clearly help with this.

After viewing several of the top prospects in the class of 2008 over the past several days, I was starting to wonder where the “wow” factor was in this rising junior class. However, Greg Monroe clearly fits the bill. He is still very raw, but the athleticism and feel are undeniable. Comparisons are difficult at the moment, as Monroe has the tools to develop into whatever type of player he wants to be. Monroe’s recruitment is still in it’s infancy, but he appears to be enjoying all the new-found attention. Plenty of heavy hitters (Rick Pitino and Louisville, John Brady and LSU, Mississippi State, Connecticut, North Carolina to name a few) were in attendance this afternoon, and Monroe is clearly going to be a priority for any high major that thinks they have a chance. Judging by today’s performance, it won’t be long before the name Greg Monroe is a staple in NBA Draft circles.

I think in any NBA Draft big men always came on top so I think Greg Monroe will be selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft.

It is some Exhibition Games featuring Team USA going up againts the best HS player from other countries.

* Team USA is divided into 3 other different teams.

Ricky Rubio I think will be getting enough experience playing in Europe and might enter the NBA Draft in 2010.

I cannot wait for Greg Monroe schooling all the veteran big men in the NBA in 2009 and beyond.

His buyout will be a key factor too. Thin about his teammate Rudy Fernandez,he probably won't play next year in the league because of this.

Anyway, on topic. It's way to early to even be setting up these kind of mocks. Rubio is 6'5 by the way, so your source is outdate, and he's almost a sure fire top 2 pick. You don't get touted as 'the best thing since Petrovic' and not go top 2. Also, he leads his league in SPG and only averages (last I heard) 17 minutes per game. Guy is going to be a lot better, and will go higher then the 4th pick.

I've never even heard of Greg Monroe. He'll probably drop to late first round by next year I'm guessing.
