If anyone has noticed, the quality of NCAA play has declined since the rookie salary cap was instated in the NBA ( thanks to Glen Robinson).
The last decade, so many players have entered the draft straight from H.S., or freshman year in college, leaving the NCAA thin when it comes to talent.
What if the NBA were to offer a progressive salary cap, where a college senior entering the draft would get a maximum rookie salary, and step it down for Juniors, sophmores, and freshman getting less. Combine that with their draft order.
Wouldn't it be great to see 4 Florida-like teams battle it out for the NCAA title?
And wouldn't it have been nice to see Ohio State come back with Conley and Oden give it another shot.
Wouldn't Oden love to have the option to double his money if he left his Junior year? How about OJ Mayo stay at least 3 yrs with SC knowing his earnings would escalate each year he stayed?

I prefer NBA basketball, so no. It seems to me that a player doesn't need college to reach his potential (i.e. Moses Malone, Garnett, Bryant, etc.). And, making it worse for underclassmen to join the NBA would be going down past roads of the league which lead to rival leagues like the ABA. Not good business.

It's all wishful thinking, I know!
If other professions did something like this, there would be mass outrage. If you have the talent, you deserve to get paid whatever you can get!
Stop the communist style thinking in sports!
Not to mention the fact that the older you are, the less you're worth as an athlete (generally)...

I take it you believe there's nothing wrong with the Kwame Browns and the High School Busts of the world?
For every Moses Malone and Kobe Bryant, there are many many more players who are just the opposite.
Personally, I'd rather see more Tim Duncans and Grant Hill's in the NBA: seasoned college players who master the fundamentals of basketballs, have experience, and can offer teams more than just a slam dunk, a crossover, or pure athleticism without basketball experience.
You really don't believe Andrew Bynum would've been a much better player had he played 2 years of college? How about Kwame proving himself a couple of years before being taken #1?
How did the 80's get to be so high quality? Do you really belive Michael would've been the player he became without his college years?

This would also seriously devalue older players. Teams would take younger players with lower ceilings and less ready to contribute over older players to save money. Not exactly what you want to happen in the draft.

You can't compare experience in education to sports where physical ability and skill are more inportant than how long you've played.
Advocating for limits on how long adults have to wait to pursue their career (with the best compensation) for your own entertainment is pretty selfish and short-sighted.
Yeah, Kwame and others were busts but I don't blame them. I blame the idiot GMs who picked them high...

That may be true but you and everyone else would have taken the money and ran too. You can't live in a capitalistic society but pick and choose where to use capitalism...
