I mean, this is total ownage by us in this trade. We get rid of a guy that doesn't want to play in the NBA right now for a good, young big man and probably the best player overseas. Both happen to play position that we desperately needed to address.

This is a win for us even if Scola doesn't come over (which I'm assuming he won't, despite what Morey thinks).

I still don't know why Spurs would give up on Butler so quickly. It's not like he's making a lot of money and he still young. With Oberto and Elson possibly gone, and Splitter will probably stay in Europe, why not keep him around?
Elson still on contract and the Oberto resign is 99.9999% done (though I am not that impressed by him). That being said I mourn the loss of JB. I really thought he would be a Spurs regular in one more year. Honestly great trade by Houston IMO.

Yeah, he said he was having family problems. Didn't like being away from Greece. Said he didn't want to play for another NBA team.

He can't play for anyone in Europe until his contract situation is resolved. I don't know what the Spurs' plans for him are.

Does Houston still have MLE to give to Scola? He's currently playing in Spain for around 3mil/year and he may command full MLE to come and play in NBA.

Yes, we do. And that is what will do.

I don't know why he wouldn't take it. How much does he make in Spain?

He has a deadline for July 15th to sign a new five year contract worth 14 million dollars.

But does he even want to play in the NBA? He has said to become so dishearted with the NBA that he might not ever want to come over.

If he does, I hope he does well.

Great trade for the Rockets. Even if they don't bring Scola over this season, it's still a good trade. Butler will help too... I'm suprised the Spurs gave up on him so quickly too. Must of just not seen him in the Spurs future, holding the rights to Tiago Splitter, Ian Mahinmi, and Robertas Javtokas and all. I thought they would at least keep one of Jackie Butler or Melvin Ely though. Who knows what's up their sleaves. I don't doubt the Spurs' front office player-evaluation skills, but I hope the the team can finally get over that "repeat" hump.

GOODNESS GRACIOUS!!!

Well I'm very excited about this deal, definitely. According to chron.com, the Rockets have every intention of bringing Scola over. Although he doesn't seem to be a great rebounder, he seems to bring intensity and aggresiveness to the front court. Suddenly our team is looking quite balanced with an core in it's prime.

C: Yao Ming / Dikembe Mutombo / Jackie Butler
PF: Luis Scola / Chuck Hayes / Steve Novak
SF: Shane Battier / Kirk Snyder / Steve Novak
SG: Tracy McGrady / Bonzi Wells / Luther Head
PG: Mike James / Rafer Alston / Aaron Brooks

Injured Reserve : Mike Harris, John Lucas III

Whoa who would of known we'd turn some crappy pieces into valuable trading pieces and get pretty tradeable contracts.

I expect the Rockets to give Scola all their MLE (I won't mind) and hopefully give Hayes the Bi-Annual Exception.

They might have some sort of early bird rights on Hayes er something.

Butler must've been a useless 5 mill on the books for SA.

Kinda makes me wonder.

Will the Spurs sign only one year deals and head into capspace next year?

Or will they sign up Oberto and whoever and do a midseason trade of some expirers (like Brent Barry)?
