great trade the rockets pulled off
Jeff Van Gundy's offense can do that to a player...
They might have some sort of early bird rights on Hayes er something.
Butler must've been a useless 5 mill on the books for SA.
Kinda makes me wonder.
Will the Spurs sign only one year deals and head into capspace next year?
Or will they sign up Oberto and whoever and do a midseason trade of some expirers (like Brent Barry)?
I think the Spurs just wanted to get some immediate cap relief. Spanoulis has told the Rockets "10 times" that he doesn't want to come back to the NBA. He said he could be traded to the SA Spurs and be a starting point guard and he still wouldn't come back.
I think what the Spurs will do is rid themselves of 2M automatically since V-Span just wants to stay in Europe, because essentially Butler is an expiring contract, but they just wanted to be cheap and get some money earlier, plus Rockets are giving them cash and a future 2nd.
No early bird rights on Hayes, the signed him for good around Jan-Feb of 2006, but before that he was on a series of 10 day contracts.

It wasn't just JVG. He said himself that he couldn't "survive" in the USA. I don't know, if I got paid tons of money to hoop, I think I'd survive easily.

Maybe it's because of his family.
Everybody praises Fisher for leaving Utah to get to a city where his daughter could get treated but no respect for Spanoulis?

Has he said anything about going to be with his dying kid?
Are teams still building around T-Mac with garbage scraps?
Tracy took some of the biggest group of 10-day contract degenerates in Orlando to the playoffs and it looks like he'll have to continue to do it..........sad.
His kid has to be dying to want to make him happy? Money and the NBA aren't everything, you know
He's going back to play in Europe because he can't handle the pressures in the NBA. What are we supposed to do or say? "Oh no, I hope he's okay". Big deal, he failed in the NBA, nobody cares, and hardly anyone knew his name anyone. That's the reason nobody cared. Because he's a complete nobody.

He wont even play in the NBA ever though. So the Rockets pretty much got nothing out of this trade, and neither did the Spurs really. One of the really low key trades that will probably go unnoticed to every team in the league in a year from now. I think what the Spurs were trying to do with this trade was to clear up some room, since Jackie Butler didn't exactly work out for them, and well Luis Scola, as I said before, wont be playing in the NBA until he's 36 and not fit to actually play in the NBA. Spanilous will stay in Europe, and they will likely waive him sometime soon, to make some space for someone better, and someone with more of a chance to play with the Spurs. Jackie Butler might become a serviceable backup for Yao, but not in the near future with Mutumbo still going strong, and even Tsakalidis on the team.
