Default Is Becks going to top Kobe as the leading sports figure in L.A.?

Seriously, Kobe is either going to barely make the playoffs or get traded, while David Beckham is going to single handledly lift up soccer in L.A. as a must see event.

Beckham is more of a people magazine celebrity than a sports celebrity. He's way past his prime.

It's not like the galaxy landed kaka, gerrard, henry, or ronaldinho.

you have a legendary franchise in the lakers and then you have a team, that nobody even knew existed before beckham showed up, in a league that nobody watches.

Beckham is past his prime and will be big news for 2 weeks, kobe will provide more than enough drama for one season.

Maybe he'll still end up in Chicago or Boston.

Kobe is washed up too. Not in terms of talent, but in terms of winning.

Beckham isn't going to lift anything. Juan Pablo Angel was signed by the RedBull and has 9 goals as is for them in 10 appearances. Another thing, LA soccer doesn't need to be lifted as the Galaxy are in the tops in the league in attendence. Hell, they might be struggling, but we don't even need Beckham as we just got Donovan back[better then Becks at the moment], barely acquired; Abel Xavier[Portugese National Player], Carlos Povan[Honduran Striker], Chris Klein, Aaron Gray. Beckham won't even be a solid player on the pitch, he's past his prime, and will do nothing but kill the Galaxy tradition. The new jerseys are already crap asis. And now, ticket prices will be raised.

If nobody knew they existed, why would big name squads, such as Chelsea, Real Madrid and more come to Los Angeles to play a team they didn't know existed? And if nobody watches the league, why is there on average about 26k people at Galaxy games? This isn't even counting the other squads. On average, there's about over 17k people at each game for each squad, lowest being 9k from the Kansas City Wizards and just over 10k for Chivas USA

Beckham is past his prime, but he was a reliable starter for Madrid, the Spanish champions. He contributed greatly to their championship.

And really, Donovan wouldn't even sitting on the bench on that team.
Imagine Donovan competing with Nistelrooy and Robinho for minutes.

i was being sarcastic but when you compare them to the leagues in europe there's not much that can be said. They play on football fields(at least the red bull team in NY) and that's not something to be proud of.

Keyword is, reliable starter. Donovan lead the US to the Gold Cup, we saw what happened without him in the Copa America. Landon is a CAM/RM, while Robinho and Van Nistelrooy are both Forwards, not Mids nor attacking mids, so that's a moot point, and at the Midfield, the only player Madrid has who's better then LD is Guti. Only other names are Emerson and Gago at the midfield. In 9 games, Landon has 4 goals and 6 assists, let's see if Beck can touch that, shall we?

True, but I just don't like the fact of people putting the MLS down when compared to European leagues. Remember, the MLS is only a dozen years old, or so, while some of those leagues started well before the 1930s. Along with that, the MLS doesn't allow spending as much you want, like the European Leagues do. In my opinion, if the MLS did allow all that spending, you would be the MLS being very competitve when compared to the EPL, Italian Series A, La Liga, etc. in a few years, but sadly, that won't happen.

There is not even a debate here, sorry.

Donovan couldn't even make it in Leverkusen. Come on.
