Default Online savings accounts

How do they work? I currently have a little over $2,000 in my checking account right now and I won't be needing that money for at least 6 months.

What is a good company to bank with? How often do they pay interest? How do I start it? I remember somebody mentioning one of these savings accounts on here a long time ago, i don't remember who though.

honestly...I wouldn't really worry about it until you have like 5k

the difference in interest is going to be like $10 over a year....not even worth the time.

Most online savings acounts range from 5-5.5%. My current checking acount is like .6%. I'd rather earn an extra $100 than $8.

ok....I guess I was off on the whole $10 thing...

I thought checking was like 1.5% and savings was like 3%

I have had both for over 7 years now I should know these kinda things...I don't even look at my checking account or even both to balance it...i just accept it for what it is and trust that my bank isn't screwing me.

Agreed. Big company that has no problems paying interest because they don't deal directly with customers.

country wide bank has some of the highest interest rate in the nation. I have a a SavingsLink thru them paying me 5.25% every month. Of course the more you deposit the higher the interest. Just go to their website and check it out. Another neat thing about that account is I have do an electronic transfer from that account to another account you have at another institution and the best thing about it is the money is liquid! ;)

Good luck!

HSBC and ING are both very good. Personally I prefer ING's interface but HSBC offers about .5% more in interest. I have been using both for 3 yrs now with little complaints. HSBC will also give you an ATM card to access your account at their ATMs btw, assuming you have a branch near you.

yeah theyre worth it if u got a couple Gs lying around and could use 10 or whatever bucks a month. only thing is that u cant access it right away. takes a few days for it to transfer to another bank account so if u need ur money liquid, keep enough on the side so u can access it immediately

My application got curbed. I'm pretty sure it is because I'm 18 and living in Nebraska. I'm probably gonna have to get my mom on the account.

For some reason in Nebraska, a person isn't considered an adult until 19. That means I can't sign any contracts or leases without a guardian. I forgot that still counts online, so I'm gonna have to talk to my mom and get her information.

And I'm still gonna do a lil more research on companies, and if I do ING i'll take you up on that offer.
