Warriors Re-Sign Kelenna Azubuike To Contract
Guard Played 41 Games With Golden State Last Season After Call-Up From NBA Development League

The Golden State Warriors have re-signed restricted free agent Kelenna Azubuike to a contract, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.
A 6-5 guard, Azubuike appeared in 41 regular season games as a rookie with Golden State last season, averaging 7.1 points and 2.3 rebounds in 16.3 minutes per contest, while shooting 44.5 percent (98-220 FG) from the field, 43.0 percent (34-79 3FG) from three-point range and 78.2 percent (61-78 FT) from the line. Among all rookies that qualified, he ranked 11th in points per game and second in three-point field goal percentage.

In nine starting assignments last season, Azubuike averaged 15.3 points and 3.8 rebounds in 32.1 minutes per contest, while shooting 50.0 percent (46-92 FG) from the field and 55.6 percent (20-36 3FG) from long range. In 12 games when playing 20-or-more minutes, he averaged 16.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest, including a career-high 28 points in a career-high 48 minutes at the Los Angeles Clippers on January 17. Additionally, Kelenna saw limited action in six playoff contests, playing a total of 15 minutes.

Azubuike, 23, began the 2006-07 campaign with the Fort Worth Flyers of the NBA Development League, where he led the D-League in scoring at 26.0 points per game through 12 contests. On January 2, 2007, the Warriors made Azubuike the first GATORADE Call-Up of the season and he made his NBA debut later that night. In fact, Kelenna played in a game (January 2 at Oklahoma City) and started a game (January 3 at Memphis) for the Warriors before ever participating in one of the team’s practices.

2 years at 1.4 million? Great signing by the Warriors as Azubuike is a nice role player who gives it all every night.

he had the best block of the year for me... when J.R. Smith tried to dunk and even changed the route of the dunk in the air, but kelenna followed it all the way and it was one of the cleanest blocks too - no body, nothing...

Simmons got a multi-million dollar contract, Azu got a contract averaging 700k per year. Don't think he'll pull a Simmons, at least not yet if he ever does. Sure, 1.4 mil is a lot of money, but not like the one Bobby got.
