Only 50? I'd expect Kobe to average 60 in only 3 quarters of play. Especially if he's playing a Starbury led team!

He'll probably return after he gets bored scoring 50 a night in the Italian club(s).

Just take a few minutes to read the story. It was so entertaining to me. What a goofy character that Marbury is.

Guy is a multi-millionaire, he just wants to live somewhere awesome now I guess. I would be right into following Steph's career in Italy if he goes. I've never been a big fan of the way he plays (with the exception of his Minnesota days, his New York arrival and this past season).

Marbury gets bagged on way too much, how about we take aim at someone like Ron Artest or Steve Francis instead?

I wish Marbury well if he goes. Dudes a ball player, he doesn't care where he plays.

bc he see's how much pub beckham gets. beckham gets the adoring fans over here because he's good looking and was the biggest name in soccer for awhile. marbury thinks something like that will happen if he goes over to italy, however marbury is not good looking, and an average bball player. = he won't get anything close in italy that beckham got here in the U.S.

I really dont think you can compare this story to beckham. If beckham played like he did with real madrid this past season before he signed the contract with galaxy then there wouldnt have been a contract b/c he knows he still has good years in him to play in high level european soccer. It seemed like real madrid just didnt want him.

But now that Beckham made a commitment with galaxy and was still playing fantastic with real madrid and real madrid tried to make him stay he decided to play with galaxy.

It seems to me like marbury will still have some more decent years after 32 years old. He should wait until he believes he only has 1 or 2 more GOOD years and play those last years in italy.

And if marbury think he will get the same welcoming as beckham in italy then wow...He needs to get a reality check. Italy just won the world cup so have fun competing with that.

Some people in this forum are a joke. Read the whole blog before you make assumptions. I see once people decide to hate a player no matter what they do it gets twisted.
What professional athlete doesnt give there team a vote of confidence when it comes to winning championships? Every player believes or says they are or should win a championship. If you dont say it or believe it then whats the point of playing? Its the same thing with the I'm the best PG in the league business. People probably wont believe this but the quote about JKidd was taken out of context. He was asked who was the best PG Jkidd or Marbury? You ask an athlete that is he going to actually say someone is better than them? NO. He didnt say the politically correct answer and he expressed himself badly but he was honest. Basically for you to be successful you have to think of yourself as the best. If you are a boxer who is better the opponent or you? You get in the ring you have to believe you are the best to have a chance at winning.

THE STARBURY BLOGS: Italy

Stephon Marbury is guest-blogging this week for Knicks beat writer Marc Berman. Marbury will file dispatches from the road during his 37-city, cross-country bus tour to promote his discount Starbury sneaker/apparel line available at Steve & Barry's.

By STEPHON MARBURY

CLEVELAND - Once you put your mind to something, you create a vision for your life that comes out in your actions in the world.

If you let other people decide what is best for you, then you are allowing someone else to create YOUR life.

I've been playing basketball since I was 2 years old. Running in the
sand, selling sodas on the beach in Coney Island with my brothers, getting stronger with dreams and a vision of making it to the NBA.

Now I have a bigger vision for myself.

This will be my 12th season in the league. When my contract is up in two years, I want to go play overseas in Italy and retire over there. Berman has the story in today's Post, but I'd like to explain it further.

During the Olympics, David Stern told us about how big basketball was becoming around the world. He was right. Now I want to make it even bigger for the United States.

For my 14th pro season, I want to go when I can still go hard and give the people what they want. I'm looking at how David Beckham is getting love for coming here. He's 32. I'll be 32 at the end of my Knicks' contract. Imagine if someone told him not to follow his heart to play soccer in the U.S.

I want to do the same thing for basketball and spread the Starbury Movement so people all around the world can benefit. I want to make things affordable for everybody.

Don't get this twisted. I love playing in New York more than anything and I am playing to win a championship in these next two seasons and go out on the highest note.

The East is wide open in my mind. I feel like we are stronger with the moves we've made. adding the right pieces. Zach is a monster. People have even been asking how I feel about Ron Artest as a player and person.

Since Berman's trying to take vacation, I'll keep it real and let y'all know I wouldn't mind playing with Ron Artest. I think he would be a good fit here in New York. He's built for it.

Some fans might be surprised I'd want to leave the NBA after 13 seasons when I'm a free agent. But I fell in love with Italy like I love New York. The people are so chill there and laid back. My wife loves it too. We recently went to Italy and it changed my life.

We drove an hour and a half from Milan to Biella to see my cousin Jamel Thomas play. It's like playing at Duke's Cameron Indoor Arena. The fans go crazy. They have a lot of passion and energy like you've never seen.

We went to Luca and got exclusive cheap watches. I played with a 6-year-old kid who loved basketball but said nobody would play with him. So I played with him two straight hours. We also went to Puzza, Montejachina and Tuscany. Tuscany was fly. The architecture and designs were incredible. I call Florence the shoe capital.
Wifey and I did the 50-cent window shopper.

After that we went to Venice. We strolled with the "Gondola man'' singing and pushing the boat. They told me 400 people take classes to steer them and only 100 people pass. I fell in love with wifey all over again. We took the boat to the casino.

Everything is on water. You have to take taxi boats. It was set-up like the movie Casino Royale, one of my favorite flicks. We ended our trip to Rome. We went to Pentium and the Coloseum. The high note was our visit to the Sistine Chapel. It is incredible. You walk in one door and out the other and you become free in mind, body and spirit. That's when I knew I was free. I flew home a free man and my life got turned around.

That's why I want to go back to Italy after winning the championship with the Knicks.

When I interviewed Jim Brown for my TV show "Stars on Stars'', he had told me not to go out on anyone else's note but to go out on my own note.

My deal with Fox Sports Net ends this month and we're talking to some networks now to reach even more people. I can't wait till we do a Starbury reality TV for my journey overseas.

My whole life I have wanted to do what Michael Jordan has done on the basketball court. But just on the basketball court. I have not tried to be like him off the court. I have a different vision for who I want to be off the court and the life I want to create to help change the world.

Yes, basketball is just a game. People get the person confused with the personality. I can create on the court but I'd much rather play the game of life. It's more fun and I'm having more fun creating my life than I've ever had.

beckham is right now probably greatest athlete in the world in marketing terms. there's no way marbury can come even close to that level.

but marbury's actual basketball skills would be in HUGE demand in europe. money in europe is becoming greater by the day, and he actually would be the best point guard in league. he's MUCH better basketball player than beckham is football player right now.

again i say, there's no way he'd come close to football superstars, but he'd also be the most marketable player in euro basketball.

what i want to say, beckham comparison is silly in marketing terms. but it's also downright idiotic to say no one would want steph in europe.

Beckham was the best player in ManUtd. With him, Manchester won the EPL many times, won the Champions Legaue and the World Clubs Championships in Japan. He is a proven winner, an elite player and a great marketable guy. That's the resaon why he has been treated like a hero in US.

Marbury is not a winner, not an elite player and not so marketable. I doubt he will draw so much attention if he play overseas, altought, he doesn't think so, cause he thinks he is the best point guard in the league and a legendary player.

trust me, marbury is much more of an elite player in nba, than beckham is in football RIGHT NOW. steph is still at worst top 15 at his position in the world. beckham, well, is not.

beckham was one of best players in the world in his earlier man utd days. he is not anymore. he's just hype, more of a fashion icon than an athletic one.

vast majority of his fans are female now :

As a knicks fan i hope he leaves because that means that isiah won't ovepay him.

marbury is kinda like beckham both overrated. beckham isn't an "all time great" infact i'd think marbury is a better basketball player than bekcham was at soccer. i don't know why you're getting all huffy about it

it's not a fair comparison: the individual impact of an athlete in football is very different from basketball, especially NBA basketball.
See Beckham's success with Real Madrid. Or England. Not much of a winner there...

In honesty, they're both overrated and overpaid athletes, not amongst the very best in their sport
