Default J.J. Redick???

He is still on USA's participating roster
its kind of a given, unless he's morphed or something since the season ended, that he'll get cut, seeing all the talent on the 17 man initial roster

what's the deal? Nothing against JJ, but is there some sort of term you serve on the available roster once you commit to an offer from USA basketball or what?
does anyone know anything about this?

uh yea. the invitees have all agreed to a 3-year commitment to the national team. JJ was one of the original 24 picked in 2006

seems more of a publicity/fan related choice when you think of it
fresh out of college after the season of his life
same with morrison
and durant and oden
its laettner all over again

3 things:

1. Youth movement. USA Basketball wanted to invite some young players with potential and start giving them a taste of FIBA basketball early (like Morrison, Redick, Ridnour, etc). Possible (note: possible) payout in the future.

2. Practice body. Originally, there were plans in the works to put together an A-squad and a scout team of younger guys. Redick would've been on that scout team..but considering this is USA BAsketball you are talking about, these good ideas get quickly trashed.

3. Redick is nothing like Laettner. Laettner was a legendary college player and was expected to be the future star/current towel boy when standing next to the 11 other dream teamers. Redick was never put in that position. So, it's completely different.

Don't they need a couple guys that know they won't play? To me a guy like Redick would be a nice fit. Isn't the international 3pt line about the same as the college line? You are down by 7 with 1 minute left, why not throw in Redick and see if he can hit a couple 3's?

And doesn't the Coach K thing mean anything? He knows his system and may be able to help out some. I like the idea of having a couple "specialists" at the end of the bench just in case, but won't need regular playing time.

im pretty sure they could have found some other players than morrison and redick who are a better fit for the future
great college players, but against men, professionals...it hasnt worked so great so far for them
and if it's three years committed, where's Okafor at? this should be his 3rd year???

Redick can shoot.

But I agree that he really shouldn't be on the team after looking at the other guys. Prince and Mike Miller would do the same things, but better. Durant and Oden don't have to play a lot of minutes since they are rookies and haven't earned the time. That gives you 4 guys who could/should make the team that will add depth, youth, shooting, and some size plus shouldn't expect to get 20 minutes every night.

you might not recall, do some research if you have to
but in 2004 Okafor was invited to play for USA basketball
i ESPECIALLY remember this seeing as he had a rough go at it, actually performed terribly in a mini-camp they had

what I wanna know, is whether he sign a commitment or not, because he's been nowhere MIA for last year and this year
maybe after seeing his performance he wasnt offered a spot?????
or maybe he chose to opt out ofthe agreement, if thats even possible

What the f&ck are you talking about? The 2004 OLYMPIC team is completely different from the 2006-2008 United States National Team. THe 06-08 NAtional Team picked a fluid group of 20+ players that would dedicate 3+ years to the 06 Worlds, 07 Qualifiers, and 08 Olympics. Okafor, thanks to his crap performance in the 04 Olympics, was never selected to the 06-08 team.

that is why i asked
DUH!
a simple answer was what i was looking for
instead i got a full blown attack
well done, really mature

ANYWAYS, i totally agree, redick would rip the international range, seeing as he wouldnt have to create much of his own shots
good specialty guy, same as morrison, but for the international game, but a guy like prince and and kind of miller, would show more versatility

maybe you shouldn't have accused me of needing to "do some research"

seeing that you asked "What the hell are you talking about?" i thought you didnt not know what i was talking about, naturally
so i told you
i gave you the benefit of the doubt that simply RETELLING what i was saying wouldnt sway you, so i told you to do research, all assuming you STILL had absolutely no clue what i was talking about

but obviously you did
so im sorry for reacting the way anyone would have

P.S. why did you edit your post, a bit obsessive, isnt it?
