Default Media's Mob mentality

yo WTF is up with peter King? the dude rips emmit for defending Mike Vick when Emmit didnt really defend Vick at all.

he called emmit a an 11 year old for stating his opinion...It flat out wasnt necessary..

I hate to go down this road, but I smell the media's mob mentality it occasionally shows when certain people wind up in controversy... Right now if you dont demonize mike vick along with the rest of the growing mob, then you get demonized for not being critical enough...people havent even see all the evidence yet, just the indictments.....People say that 'innocent until proven guilty' is simply a principle of jurisprudence but how do you make your mind up and jidge guilt or innocence without the whole story? Mob mentality is for cowards... If Vick is soo guilty, whats the rush to nail him to a cross right now? he's not going anywhere...you'll have plenty of time to go after Vick when the trial is complete...

Like I said my issue isnt guilt or innocence...its the cowardly mob mentality that some people enjoy taking part in....Clinton Portis damn near got suspended for not criticizing Vick. He had to come back and apologize because people were so mad.

its pathetic..Emmit is a stand up guy and has always carried himself with dignity and class...I dont know alot about the dog fighting culture, but from what i hear and remember from my time living in florida was that it is big in some circles...and Im not defending it, Im just saying that else larger is going on here and hasnt all played itself out yet..

thing that made me most mad about Peter King is that this ass hat had the nerve to quote this:

Quote:
"I am confident that the hottest places in hell are reserved for the souls of sick and brutal people who hold God's creatures in such cruel and brutal contempt.''
-- West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd, on those who participate in dogfighting and raise dogs for dogfighting.

Senator Byrd? you mean the f*cking ex-klansman? Is Peter King serious here? is he really that much of an imbecile?

Sen Byrd might know about how hot hell is since he is the devil....

Peter King just fell waay off in my book for the cowardly attack on Emmit. I think Emmit and clinton are less accusatory because they are from the south and know a little about dog fighting so they arent follow the big new craze against it....

Like I said Im not a dog fighting expert and if the charges hold (funny how I learned that Goerge Bush signed a law that changed dog fighting from a misdemeanor to a felony federally 8 days after the Vick investigation began) Vick should be punished, but I wouldnt consider dudes like emmit and Portis to be idiots because they obviously have inside knowledge on how this world (dog fighting world)works..

what bothers me most is that the media's mob mentality seems to filter down to public and the people start parroting the same dumb logic they obtained from these sportswriters....

I got more to say, but Ill wait

I agree. Players like Bond, Terrel Owens and Moss are in the same boat.

And second of all, I don't understand how dog fighting is that big of a moral issue. We're destroying forests where animals live so we can eat our McDonalds but where's the mass to damm them. We eat veal and they're butchered without ever touching the ground, yet where's the outcry. God knows how many animals are killed or injured for scientific research, but I don't see people wishing they would go to hell. What about those that go fishing for fun or shooting animals for the same reason?

I feel bad for the dogs, but in the end they're animals......

It's not like I think Emmitt Smith is above criticism, but honestly, he didn't really defend Vick so much as simply not bash him. For someone to call Emmitt "idiotic" for what he said, well that's just cowardly BS to make something out of nothing.

Ya, there so many of these situations in society in general. ie. The entire cast of Fox News thinking everyone against the war is a terrorist and actually saying those words.

Even outside of the media. Remember that story of a guy hitting a girl with his car in front of her appartment and a mob confronted him. The passenger tried defending his freind saying it was an accident and he ends up getting beaten to death.

I always think of that scene from Frankenstein when the whole village is marching to the castle.

thats actually a great example... I think fox is trying to fight off the angry mob in their case.. But it is still part of the dynamic... the only difference I see in fox news is that they have a set agenda which is to make certain people appear to be correct and villify others...It doesnt really seem to be about the truth....

Yeah I remember that.....

Mobs get angry and go for blood, forget justice....

The cops hit a little girl with their their cop cars in Reading PA and they damn near had to fight for their lives too....

Not saying people shouldnt be upset, but Im saying that mob action is pretty irrational and its disturbing to see a guy like peter king use this situation to take his sucker punch shot at emmit in the midst of it... I understand he and emmit dont like each other over something emmit said years ago...he dismissed king a while back saying somethign to the effect of "king will write anything just to stoke a controversy" so now king has to take shots and even question the networks wisdom in hiring emmit as a commentator at all... you can already tell he'll be sneaking in jabs for a while
