Default Houston Rockets are (were) Gay

T-Mac almost had Gay, Head.

The Houston Rockets get a steal with Rudy Gay, then trade him away. Why did they do this, just for Shane.

I don't know.

Probably because they already have someone with questionable motivation and we all know that Shane will come to play everynight, hit the open jumper (huge for us right now), and make heady veteran plays.

It is very hard to swallow, but Shane helps us win more in the short term and let's face it...........this is a short term team.

I don't think it's a bad trade at all. Battier is a very under-rated player. Memphis needed to shake things up. West loves Battier, but after getting swept 2 years in a row (or 3?), it's time to make some moves.

Houston gets one of the best role players in the league, exactly what they need, and Memphis gets a good young player with a load of potential.

Unless Gay turns out to be a T-Mac or Vince type player (which I don't think he will be), then it's a good deal for both teams.

I believe the last lottery swingman West traded for was Kobe Bryant.

i don't like this trade. shane's good, but he's a player that isn't hard to get. i wouldn't give up gay, who could end up being great, for battier.

Dude, get a clue.

Teams have been trying to pry Shane Battier away for years......

No one offered someone with Rudy's upside. We have to face it, we were retarded to trade with Jerry West.

No point arguing with a guy like him. If he doesn't know that Battier was highly coveted, then he doesn't know anything. West has said many times that it would take a lot to take Battier off his hands.

He doesn't always make good trades.

Marcus Banks and Kendrick Perkins for Troy Bell and Dahntay Jones?

But can Battier be a reliable third option, which the Rockets desperately need?

He couldn't do that in Memphis, let's see if he can do it in Houston.

Getting rid of Swift's contract was good since JVG didn't like him.

That's a little more salary to go after someone else.

Thumbs up

Shane is basically a 50% FG, 40% 3pt, and 90% FT guy on offense. He's a solid defender and rebounds well. A guy like T Mac who can get to the teeth of teh defense, needs someone to pass it to who won't miss! Shane won't miss. Remember, Shane didn't have anyone with T Mac's abilities in Memphis. He's a good third option and someone who can remove the heat from McGrady when he's double teamed.
Beyond this, he's a great civic minded guy that Houston fans will grow to like. I think he's one of those synergistic guys who can facilitate a better chemistry in the team - Houston needs that too.
