The Spurs starters statistically against our proposed starters. Take into consideration we are younger and hopefully will get better. Z Bo has better stats but I used an average. I think everybody's stats will be better except for Marbury's point per game. I see a big potential edge here, so it comes down to Defense!!! I added 3 guys off the bench that seem to be getting minutes. I think we have a better overall team except for Duncan and maybe Parker. These guys won on hustle and defense, not to mention calls from the refs.
Look at both rosters and we are deeper and more athletic. But they have more veteran proven players. Could they keep up with us especially our second team? I don't think so.
What's my point? If these guys can win a championship we can too, with or without Artest. It's all up to us keeping healthy, our young players which we have many, improving and the team buying into playing defense.

My point is that stats don't mean anything, except the one's in the win/lose category.
If we play some Defense add those stats, they are as good as any in the league, that's my point.
I figured y'all would miss that.
It proves that some of you do not read the posts but react to them emotionally.
It also proves that we have an excellent team and the stats prove that.
This was for those who don't feel we are worthy of being a competitive team against the great new Celtics who after those 3 players have NOTHING.
We may not have the best player at any position in the league but we have the best group of players in the league. A lot of them are in the top 5 or the top 10. Not many teams can say that yet we have many of them.
Be optimistic and enjoy this season, it's going to get better every year.
This league is all about match ups
u guys are right about us not being as good as them
but u never know this team might play well against them.
To me and Quentin Richardson the Cavs arent that good at all....We could prlly beat them in a series..i have no fear of that team.but teams like the bucks can give us a world of trouble.
Denver is another team that we can't beat but the cavs could of done some damage to them if the ship was against them two.

nice rebellious touch on the post
But I do agree with you completely otherwise.

Wow, as you said, all that shows us is how dreadful the Knick's defense is. Statistically, we stack up, but we lack any great perimeter defenders(Ginobli), any big men that can clog the lane/bang on defense(Duncan), and we're not a team that plays great team defence(or atleast we weren't last year, and I doubt Zach will help us improve in that category).
We're still a great offensive team though, and I definately think we're the favorites for the final play-off spot in the East.
We have the players that can put numbers up, we have a deep bench and that will get us into the playoffs and maybe win a series.
Until we play as a team and that means smart, that means defense and fundamental unselfish basketball we will be a playoff team and a contender.
But to win the championship we need those things. Maybe after a little success they will figure out what it takes to take the next step if not they(certain players) will be replaced one at a time.
please dont compare us with the spurs. yea we have a nice team now but def not championship material. yea offensively we can prolly run with the best but we are going to be a below avg defensive team, and that wont change this year .
The Knicks have a deep roster. That is good. But no one on the team is intimidating either on the offensive or defensive end. Plus collectively, they don't play as a team for the WHOLE game.
That is where the Spurs are champions.
It's not about individual players, it's about the entire unit.
