Default Greatest debut single from an artist ever?

The Jackson 5ive's I Want You Back is probally the greatest debut single ever by any group. As their first single released in 1969, it sold over 6 million copies and was number one on both the pop and black charts

I dare someone to name a better debut single by an artist?

Jackson 5: I Want You Back

The Doors, "Light My Fire." Still the anthem of an entire generation.

Best as in best selling? Well that's not debatable...just look at the numbers.

Best as in most popular? Debatable, but a very exclusive list.

Best as in your personal favourite? That's tough, but the only one worth talking about.

Metallica's first was One even though it was on their 4th album.

I don't even know if Dream Theatre's Pull Me Under was a single. If it was then it's way up there.

Mobb Deep's Shook One's Pt.II

Megadeth's Peace Sells.

Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast...think it was their first single.

Black Sabbath's Back Sabbath was the first true metal song.

Judas Priest's You've Got Another Thing Coming.

Anthrax's I Am The Law

Radiohead's Creep

Smashing Pumpkin's Today

Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit

B.B. King's The Thrill Is Gone...I don't think any previous song was a commercial single.

Jimi Hendrix. Purple Haze in America and Foxy Lady in the UK. He did technically have earlier singles in the UK, but I choose to ignore that.

Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train

I'd probably put Megadeth, Ozzy and Mobb Deep at the top.

Light My Fire was not The Doors' debut single. Break on Through was.
