not really close in my opinion. you could make a case for top 15, but i am not sure if i were fielding a real life basketball team for this upcoming season, that i would be happy ending up with AI as my first pick. his positive qualities are as good as anyone's but he has a lot of negatives.
btw, AI is a better player than Yao. AI is the second best scorer in the league. He's a good playmaker. Steals the ball.
Yao on the other hand. Scores the ball from 12 feet away even though he's 7'6'' 280lbs. He occasionally blocks shots, but not nearly enough. He rebounds the ball decently. Basically, when he goes for 25/10, everyone is surprised. When Iverson goes for an equivalent statline for a combo guard, like 24/6, its what we all expect from him. Usually more
yao ming average 25/9, is that a surprise for you?
Ai is the second best scorer in the league, Yao ming the best centre in the league, unless you count duncan as a centre.
Why do people nowadays expect all centers to be like Shaq and just bulldoze his way to the rim and brick FTs? Before Shaq, there were smooth big men like Hakeem, Robinson, Sampson, Jabbar, to a certain extent Malone, but now everybody thinks that centers must be able to dunk, that they can't shoot and they must be huge
On topic: He slips out of the top 10 because he now plays on a top 10 team and has to share the ball with Carmelo. Had he remained on the sixers, he would probably still have a guranteed all-star spot and excellent stats, but little team success.

I nominate this as the dumbest post I've ever read on here.
First of all, just because Yao has range doesnt mean he just stands outside dropping 12 footers, Yao might be the best post player in the league. He is one of the FEW players that still can play back to the basket.
Second the guy pretty much AVERAGES 25/10, what the hell is so surprising....
I can't stand when people act like they know Yao's game and then talk about him like their talking about 02-04 Yao.......... This is 2007 and Yao is the best center in the league.

The best Center in the League + TMac= Title shot.
Yao (b!tch a$$) Ming + TMac= getting your a$$ handed to you by the Utah Jazz in the first round.
Yao is not fit to clean Shaqs shoes. You know what made shaq (and all the other greats) great? being able to overcome weaknesses when his team needs him the most. I hated lakers, but in clutch situations I was not exited to see Shaq at the line. Why? Cuz he steps up and makes them when they count.
Why are you giving Yao the crown of best in the league? Cuz he is 7'5? Cuz he is chinese? Thats the only two things he has ever accomplished in the league, infact he didnt even accomplish that... his parents did.

Yeah, nice nick you handed to him. Plus, did you not watch the series or what? Quit stockpiling the blame on Yao, it wasn't him. He did what he could, he did whatever was possible. 25 and 10 isn't enough for your ass? What is it then? Share.

He's 7'5". What else can the man do? Expect him to do a windmill for your own personal pleasure? He did what he did.

After reading this, no way in hell I can take you ****ing seriously.

That was a pretty stupid post, but that bolded part made me laugh.
I'm surprised that Boozer doesn't really get a mention in most of these top10 lists. The guy was in the running for MVP last year, can shoot with either hand, gives you 23/12/3, and (along with Deron) helped bring the Jazz to the Western Semis.
