Default Re: Can the Miami Heat still be top notch at this stage?

They got their championship out of this group. Many of their core players were old then, but they had the motivation of a ring to keep them going. Now, with that out of the way, those players have gone from old to just flat-out ancient. The did reach their goal, but they mortgaged their future in doing so (a fair tradeoff, I feel. Gotta risk it and "go for it" sometimes).

They are done. A healthy Wade will keep them in the hunt, but that's a big "IF" Everyone else on that roster is basically an underachiever, injury prone, or old........

I don't feel that you can place an "injury-prone" label on Wade yet. MJ had a very serious injury in his second year yet he came back stronger. I expect Wade to do the same and make a serious run at MVP as Shaq's role diminishes.

As for any chance at a championship run? Maybe last month. Now that the Celts have Garnett I don't see the Heat making an ECF unless they make a major move in the future (Sign JO).

I see the Heat making it into the playoffs but not doing that much. Possible first round exit. Wade will have an MVP type year though.

If they stay healthy through the year they could get to the 2nd round depending on if they get a high seed and play the Wiz/Raps/Nets.

Unforunately, staying healthy is almost an uncertainty, as is the lower seed that will follow.

I think we could finally take down the Heat in a 7 game series.

arenas>williams
shawn<wade
butler>walker
jamison>haslem
haywood<shaq

wiz bench>heat bench

Heat are way too old.

You forget the addition of the rookie shooter, another year of Wright (who showed some game), Wade having some time off the game and Shaq and Zo and company getting some rest this summer. They could be in position to make some noise in the playoffs.

You need a big man that can defend a little, and rebound well. I think Shaq is too much for the Wiz

Heat aren't getting any younger.

Seriously, I don't think Wade can lead the team without Shaq. maybe to a 42 win record..

Old players on the Heat

Mourning- He still got some juice in the tank and can stay most of the time, but his numbers aren't that great.

Shaq- seriously, he's aging and his numbers have been down since 2004. I think its time for Shaq to think about retirement.

There are more aging rosters on the heat, but not going to name them.

I don't expect the Heat to have a 50 win record.

We could bring Etan in to give him some trouble. At this point in Shaq's career, I think it's possible.

Shaq think about retirement. Seriously, unless he just runs into an injury that keeps him down or cripples him, why? He, without Wade, led the Heat to one of the better runs in the NBA last season after missing half the season. Year before that, he was drawing double and triple teams in the playoffs, more specifially the finals which he won. Year before that, if not for the knee from JO and Wade getting hurt he may have brought 2 rings to Miami, that's also the year he should've won MVP.

He's older, no doubt about it, and slowing down. But mostly his numbers are only dropping due to less minutes, stemming from some nagging injuries. But give the guy some better shooting and any team he plays on will win. Not to mention Wade can't be getting stopped by Hinrich, while others focus on Shaq.

Shaq's impact is huge. If I could be assured Shaq would play 70 games and the whole postseason I'd trade a lot to get him and that's even if he's just getting 19 and 8 or whatever in 30 or less minutes.

the heat are done, shaq is done his selfishness has crippled the clubs future with his contract, I don't know why he wanted another payday the guy is rich enough. if his contract was like 2-3 million the heat could do so much more about there future.

Since Shaq was traded to Miami, the Wizards have beaten the Heat ONCE in 16 tries (that's counting the 4 times they play each other in the regular season for the past 3 years and the time they swept them in the playoffs with Shaq missing two of those games)

If there's one thing the Heat don't have to worry about, its the Wizards!
