Larry Bird, easily. While BIrd is sinking silky smooth jumpers, Maravich will be turning the ball over left and right by getting too fancy in order to show off in front of all the 50 year old women...
Pistol's advantages lie in the full court game and the ability to dish out to teammates and finish impossible shots. But a 1-on-1 match would be half-court, so I'll take Bird 10 times out of 10.
Larry Bird he is a legit 6'9 and he can literally destroy the 6'5 Pete Maravich in a 1 on 1 contest because of his versatility. I cannot see Pete Maravich out rebounding Bird in a 1 on 1 game so it means more ball possession for Bird.
Actually, big men often have a disadvantage against smaller players 1-on-1. Jalen Rose beat Amare Stoudemire 1-on-1. It's tough to chase around a small guy who can hit from the outside. The outside shot is important. Puts a slower player in a position of either giving up the outside shot or getting passed on the drive.
Pete Maravich was a small guy who could hit from the outside. He could also handle the ball well. Bird would probably have his way backing down on Maravich. And, I imagine that Bird would be able to chase down Maravich enough defensively to give him the advantage. If Maravich would try on defense (doubtful), he'd have a chance of beating a slower, bigger, less athletic player like Bird, though.
