GM: Jerry West
Coach: Phil Jackson
Star Player: Kobe Bryant
Side-kick: Caron Butler

Thats a strong defensive duo and great offensive moves and energy. Leave West a couple months to find: A good rebounding and defensive PF. A good shooting PG. A good mid-range shooting center.

Not really, they are just two of my favorites in the league. I could have an all Duke team instead. Elton Brand, Shelden Williams, JJ Reddick, Grant Hill, Josh McRoberts, Luol Deng, Shane Battier

If I was starting a franchise...

GM: xxxSuperstar
Coach: Greg Popovich
Star Player: LeBron James (stadium will be filled, merch sold, making me lots of money, young and will be cash cow for years)
Side-kick: Al Jefferson (best young, non-main man, big man in the game, rebounds, plays d, and can score, elton brand part 2, will be around for years)
City: Los Angeles--same reasons everyone wants to play there

This thread is seriously flawed, because people are just throwing superstars out for the "secondary" players. I'd say if a player is a franchise player, he doesn't fit the bill as a sidekick. Dwight Howard, for instance. Or Greg Oden, Elton Brand, Pau Gasol, Chris Paul. Deron Williams is a bit of a stretch. Players like Hinrich, Butler, Aldridge and so on are more what I think of for this thread. You pretty generally don't get 2 "franchise" players to start a franchise.

I would take:

Colangelo
Popovich
Bryant
Nene/Aldridge
