Default GOAT PF : Duncan or K Malone

There is a instense arguement between who was the GOAT PF, Duncan or Malone.

My pick is Duncan. The guy can score anywhere from the post, 15 footer, bank shot, hook shot, turnaround jumper. Not only that, he's an excellent post defender, help defender from the weak side, very quick picking up another man from pick and roll. He can easily score 30 ppg but his unselfishness has enables many role and ex- players to look very good (Speedy Claxton, Derek Anderson, Devin Brown).

Malone: Yes, he can score at the post, turnaround jumper , set nasty picks, etc...No need to lecture on his offensive skills. We all know that. On the defensive end, he was a very good post defender with quick hands to slap the ball away.

BUT he can't control the game like Duncan can. Duncan excels at the post season where it counts unlike Malone. That's what separates Malone and Duncan. You can argue that they played in the different era. Given the skills that Duncan had, if he had played in the 80 and 90s era, he would be much more dominate for the fact that there is no zone defense, only man-man defense. There is no way anyone would stop Duncan man-to-man other than Hakeem.

GOAT PF: Duncan > Malone

Karl Malone loves the ladies.

Karl Malone saw Handball, starring Anfrenee Hodkins. Karl Malone says if you gonna pay $10 to see Handball, might as well pay an extra $75 to see Karl Malone play basketball.

its getting pretty hard to argue against duncan now that he has 4 rings...

id love to say malone, the cat put up insane numbers for around 18 seasons... if he had won 2 or so rings, i would say Karl, so yerr, as of now Duncan gets my vote here 'sigh'...

Let's not be stupid.

Malone >>>>>>>> Duncan

Actually, on that other thread, you look more like a tool. Its so funny what you wrote that its just sad.

I know you're a troll that likes to spew garbage to create fueds and whatnot, but at least get your **** straight. That was probably the most ignorant and ill-advised thing you could say on this matter.

well, the thing that I'm thinking of is eras. karl malone and tim duncan are both Hall of Fame worthy athletes but seriously, karl had a much more difficult era for his career than duncan has. the 1990's were malones era. an era in which michael jordan and the bulls won 6 out of 10 rings. making it to the finals in that era alone says something for malone.

I really, really don't want to be a d!ck (especially to a noob), but this topic is posted about every 5 days or so.

With his fourth ring, Duncan cemented himself as a top 10 NBA player ever. Malone is somewhere around 15.

I'd love to give greatest PF ever to Karl, but I can't ignore that he should have had at least one ring (should have beaten the Bulls the second time) and definitely should have gone to the finals with Stock more than twice.

Getting to the finals is one thing, winning them is a different story. If you aren't first your last...who cares if you came in second place? That's the attitude that most fans should have. When you have a great supporting cast like Malone had, you want to win championships, second bests or moral victorys should never be accepted.

Anyways, I'm positive Malone didn't have to go through tougher competetion to get to the finals than Duncan has had. He's played against some really, really good teams in his career during the playoffs. He's lost against some, and won against some.

Fact remains that Duncan has not played in a weak ERA. Not when you put into perspective that he's playing in the super-tough western conference his whole career. If he was playing in the East I might say otherwise....but the western conference has never been a pushover since Duncan has entered the league.

Oh no, I got a bunch of emoticons from a poster who every one knows makes polemic statements just for the sake of argument.

Duncan is lucky to be mentioned as a top 15 player ever, let alone top 10.

Duncan is top 10. Sorry if you don't want to believe it.

Malone is a guaranteed top 8 player of all-time

Russell, Wilt, Magic, Bird, Jordan, Kareem, Shaq, Duncan are all unquestionably ahead of him. Sorry, he's not top 8.

Duncan also doesn't have to play against the GOAT...

...not voting one way or the other, just pointing it out. :)

I agree that Karl Malone had an awesome supporting cast those years. The combo of him and John Stockton was legendary, still is. I think to fairly compare them together, we need to take a look at the Western Conference competition of each others era.

Russell
Hakeem
Shaq
Duncan
Oscar
