How can a guy who never eclipsed 25.5 ppg be considered greater than a monster who put up 31.0 ppg one year?
"Rings!"
"Team player!"
"Unselfish!"
"Didn't choke!"
or...
"Played with two all-stars"
"Played against some shi.tty ass teams"
"Didn't face Jordan"
Because in the system the Spurs play sacrifices are need to be made in statistics for the players. He has won 4 titles, he has 2 MVPs, 3 Finals MVPs, and numerous accomplishments. Malone should have gotten some rings but unfortunately he was in a era when Michael was dominant. That's just how it is, no use saying Duncan didn't face Michael. He faced an incredible duo of afro Kobe and prime Shaq, which is pretty damn hard. And rings? Karl doesn't have a championship that i'm aware of. Face it man.
Duncan>Malone. This thread should have ended a long time ago.
Not that it matters, but Duncan has been kicked out of the playoffs every year by a prime Laker team...you guys say Malone never won anything like it's a really valid point. Think for a second how many titles would Duncan have had if he played against Chicago in those finals? None, that's how many. He wouldn't have beaten Houston either.
With that said, Duncan is the better all around player no doubt about it, I just hate how people bring up the championship talk without fully realizing the competition each man faced in their respective era.
But the thing is, BULLS, that was unfortunate but it's the way it is. That's fact, that's it, there's no changing that. So you have to go by strictly reality not hypothetical situations when you compare two players from different eras.
Spurs beat the Lakers in 2002-2003 (the year they won the title), prompting the Lakers to go out and pick up GP and Malone.

Duncan also beat those laker teams twice (1999 and 2003) and if it wasnt for Fishers fluke shot it could have been in 2004 as well.
Malone got to the Finals TWICE and failed, Duncan got to the finals FOUR TIMES and won. you cant fault duncan for playing against weak finals opponents...if this is the case then you also have to fault shaq for playing against weak eastern teams. you cant penalize one and not the other here...how do you like them apples?

I said prime Laker team, not a team where Shaquille had injuries on every part of his body and Samaki Walker was our starting PF. Where Fox wasn't nearly as effective and where our bench consisted of Medvedenko, 40 year old Shaw, Horry, George and Kareem Rush.
The only bright spot from that team was Kobe, arguably his best all around season to date...but Shaquille wasn't in shape that season and had many reoccurring injuries.
The MJ excuse is nice - we all enjoy it to defend guys like Ewingm, Barkley, Malone, etc...but to be fair, Malone was only stopped by MJ twice. So even if, in those two title shots, Malone faced the worst finals team ever imagined, he'd still have 2 fewer titles than Duncan.

What part of a prime Laker team don't you understand?
The reason I'm saying prime Laker team is because I'm giving you an example of how tough the competition was for Malone in the 90's.

I would like them apples just fine if I could understand the point of your post. I already said Duncan is the better player, what does Shaquille have to do with anything?
I'm saying championships by so many of you are highly overrated because most of you let that arrogance decide the better player by simply googl'ing how many titles each player won and never realizing the path they had to go through in those years to get those rings.

well then the Spurs never had a PRIME team. every year the supporting cast changed, yet the only common denominator was tim duncan. Duncan beat the pistons on TWO sprained ankles. boo hoo for shaq and his out of shape ass.
