Should people be required
to carry their own personal medical insurance? In the state of Massachusetts, it is a law
. How do you feel about this somewhat abstract prerequisite that no other state has yet to even hint at proposing?
Automobile insurance is mandatory as well, however that's because you're liable for others besides just you, yourself and I. With health insurance, you're only liable for your own personal medical treatment. Your next door neighbor is not at risk if you're unhealthy, so why is this now a "required" coverage for the residents of MA?
I believe all this sounds good on paper, but in reality:
A) There's really no way to "force" people to carry the insurance. Yes, there's a "tax penalty" however that will not force people to follow the law.
B) It doesn't seem very constitutional
for our country to make us
take care of ourselves. If we were a liability to others around us, I could see the logic, but that's not the case here.
