Default Beckham attracts 66,000 at the LA Galaxy vs. NY Red Bull game...

How bout that for doing something for soccer in the US mothasuckas?

He got two assists in the first 8 min and played the whole game.

They lost 5-4. Unfortunately, I didnt get to watch it. Landon Donovan even asked him to be captain.

So is that enough to prove you guys anything or will it need to be continuous games?

Yes, this David Beckham is one talented soccer stud. The game before that he scored on a PK kick and had an assist to Landon Donovan. He is almost like a good point guard in basketball, in the sense that he makes all his teammates better. This is very good for the MLS.

Beckham will take US soccer on almost exactly the same path that Katie Couric took CBS.

I can only speak for myself and others, but I don't think most people will watch the MLS when they know there's a better product out there (European Soccer). Of course, even if they show European matches, it's hard for many people to get excited about it when they don't have a proper home team to root for.

This is evidenced by the World Cup ratings. TV ratings for the World Cup were really good because Americans were given the chance to watch the rest in the world. They also were able to root for a team, USA.

In fact, I read that the WC Final had a bigger TV rating than any single game of the World Series last year. Of course, that could be due to it being a 7 game series. But still, I feel that a lot of Americans are aware of Soccer. They just don't like watching an inferior product compared to other soccer leagues in the world.

The sport we argued about the other day. Remember that?

66,000 people. Wow, a big attraction. That's some English Premier League numbers right there.

Pardon me sir, but the correct term is Football. However, it is very different from the sport Americans refer to as football, as the athletes involved have more skill and are better conditioned.

It is a common misconception, but now you know the difference.

I believe it's a form of spousal abuse if i'm not mistaken. For example:

"my wife didn't have dinner ready when i got home so i had to soccer"

Personally i think we need LESS of this in America...

I find it funny, that the same guys, who will say that the USA is the biggest badass country in the world, are afraid of a sport.

the insecurity is amazing.

This was a really good game. Exciting from start to finish. Good for Beckham's mission in the US, even if LA weren't victorious in the end.

there was already a thread about this...

It is a known fact that the greatest athletes in the world are found in the NFL.

"more skill"?....lmao....I would like to see Beckham return a punt for a TD, that is true "skill".

And this was conducted when and by who? Lab results link?

And I would like to see Terrell Owens kick it into the upper 90 from 80'. Way more all around skill is needed to play soccer than football.

you are so very wrong...

millions play soccer

you have to be a freak athlete to play in the NFL

I am not going to argue this anymore with you...If you think that Beckham is more of an athlete than Owens then this conversation is pointless.
