Default Marbury: Dog-fighting is a sport

Quote:
We dont say anything about people shooting deers and shooting other animals. You know what I mean? From what I hear, dog-fighting is a sport. Its just behind closed doors and I think its tough that we build Michael Vick up and then we break him down. I think hes one of the superb athletes and hes a good human being. I think he fell into a bad situation.

Marbury says a lot of dumb stuff. He obviously doesn't know much about dog fighting and the conditions surrounding it.

cause shooting a wild animal for meat is the exact same thing as raising animals to be vicious machines who kill each other..... What a ****ing fool. ****(rooster) fighting is a sport and so is the one where rich men put a homeless bum on an island and hunt him for $1 mil.

If all he did was attend dog fights and provide a venue, itd be one thing (still illegal). But he (allegedly) killed a dog by slamming it into the ground until it was dead! Another by hosing a dog down and electrocuting it and others through hanging and drowning. Not that he witnessed this, but that he participated in it. I dont care what you do with the animal before hand, but this type of brutal execution is terrible and definitely illegal (whether or not a dog fight occurred). If his plea admits to this and the gambling aspect I hope he gets a lifetime ban from the NFL. **** that ****, he should be going to jail for at least 5.

Make no mistake, Stef, Vick didn't fall into a bad situation, he created his own filth and then wallowed in it.

Nothing bad happened to him, he just freaking did it.

Isn't that what we teach people who are training for the Army, Marines, etc. and the "terrorists" we train to help our foreign (Latin American) allies at the School of the Americas?

sure, but the government sets the rules of acceptable violence so who is going to challenge them (even when International tribunals have attempted to bring americans up on war crimes [reagan for Granada] we have ignored them)? The whole definition of terrorism stems from "extra-state {non nation-state approved} violence".

That is a ridiculous comparison. People CHOOSE to join the military and going to war isn't for sport.

No it isn't.

Humans have the ability to reason, dogs do not have such advanced capability. Dogs will do what they are trained to do, humans do what they choose to do.

explain that to anyone studying mob psychology or cult/brainwashing. While I agree with you and myth, there are times when humans do not reason (or actively choose) but simply do what they are trained to do or told to do. There is an element of this in bootcamp and other types of military training. Now you can always argue that the initial step to expose themselves to the training was a choice.

Thats why I said choose to "join" the military. I understand the dehumanizing process once one is in the military. Heck, I have a B.S. in Psych myself.

The specific words that came out of Steph's mouth don't make sense, but it is true that lots of hunting is completely inhumane, and gets overlooked for whatever reason.

Down in Texas you can hunt exotic animals with sniper rifles, either in person or through the internet (via webcam), and as far as I'm aware it's perfectly legal. In some cases, they'll drive you out to a good location, and then bring the animal out to assure that you'll get it within an hour. They aren't the type of animals that you'd eat. Should be a felony - I know that's not what Marbury was trying to get at, but it's true.
