Default Superstar trades

5 superstars got traded in the last 3 years. What's your take on that?
And which team got the best package?

Lakers traded Shaq for Odom, Butler, Grant and a first round pick. Shaq was 32 years old.

Orlando trade T Mac for Francis, Mobley and Cato. T Mac was 25 years old.

Toronto traded VC for Zo, Aaron Williams, Eric Williams and 2 first round picks. Vince was 27 years old.

Philla traded AI for Andre Miller, Joe Smith and 2 first round picks. AI was 31 years old.

Minnesota traded KG for Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, Ryan Gomes, Telfair and two first round picks.

Thoughts on superstars getting traded?

I think Minnesota got the best package for KG....by far.
You're talking about an already 16/11 player in Al Jeffferson who is 20ish years old, Gerald Green, a very talented swingman, an expirer in Ratliff, a decent player in Gomes and two picks.

When you compare it to other deals, McHale is a genius.

Lakers got 2 solid players in Butler and Odom but they traded Butler away because of the 2007 plan. Too bad.
If they had both players now under Jackson, who knows how good they'd be.
Still, taking on Grant's contract was a terrible decision.
That pick turned out to be Jordan Farmar who's solid..
Not a good trade but hey..

Now when you look at it, 3 swingmen, AI, T Mac and VC got traded for trash. No other way to describe it.

Stupidest trade of them all. The Raptors pretty much gave away Carter for nothing.

Yup. Because they refused to trade Vince when it became obvious that his future would not be with the Raptors.
What happened? Vince lowered his value down by himself.
Therefore, my advice to teams with unhappy superstars..don't delay what's bound to happen. You"ll only make it worse.

But seriously, McHale's looking like a rocket scientist compared to other GM's.
He got youth, a huge exp. contract, 2 picks....for a 31 year old superstar.
Pretty great if you ask me..in comparasion to other trades.

2/20/97- Nuggets trade Mark Jackson and LaSalle Thompson to the Pacers for Vincent Askew, Eddie Johnson, and second round draft picks in 1997 and 1998.

2/22/01- Hawks trade Dikembe Mutombo and Roshown McLeod to the 76ers for Theo Ratliff, Toni Kukoc, Nazr Mohammed, and Pepe Sanchez.

2/20/03- Sonics trade Gary Payton and Desmond Mason to the Bucks for Ray Allen, Kevin Ollie, Ronald Murray, and either a 2003 first round draft pick, or two 2003 second round draft picks.

Mark Price was a star, not a superstar, but the trade involving him was one of the most lopsides ever. Make every GM of those tardes mentionated looks like a genius.

Cleveland trade Mark Price to washington for a first round pick (12th overral). The pick turn in Potanpenko.

Very very bad.

Wasn't Mark Price done by then?

The Heat (the flip side of the Lakers) Shaq's trade... it got him/the heat a ring two seasons later.

The Celtics won this deal, but when you consider they got

KG
Posey
Pollard
House

For
Jefferson
Green
Gomes
Telfair
Expirer
and two late picks

You see the true value of the deal and why the Celtics won.

He had one more year in his contract, the Cavs could wait a little more and get a better deal for him.

Pollard is nothing and you can't consider Posey because they went into the luxury tax to get him. They could have gone into the luxury tax to get a player of his caliber if they wanted to without KG.
And one of those picks is Minnesota's which will likely be in the lottery and you never know how the ping pong balls will bounce.

When you consider the original trade, Minnesota won. It's my opinion that Boston paid one first round draft pick too many.

I wasn't talking about his contract.

I was talking about being a star player.

For some reason I don't remember Mark Price doing much of anything after getting traded out of CLE.
