Default Jelani McCoy or Jamal Sampson

The Nugs currently have 13 players under contract and don't have a backup center. They haven't re-signed Jamal Sampson and J. McCoy played well during the summer league. Should they sign McCoy or Sampson?

Sampson didn't play much last year and was used mainly as a practice player. McCoy hasn't played in the NBA in a couple of years, but, he looked better than Sampson on offense and defense during the summer league than Sampson looked in the regular season last year. I vote for McCoy!

The Nuggets offered to re-sign center Jamal Sampson to a nonguaranteed contact, but he will sign a similar deal with Dallas, which has injured centers.

Guard Anthony Roberson said he'll sign a nonguaranteed deal with the Nuggets, and center Jelani McCoy also might sign

The Nuggets today are expected to sign center Jelani McCoy of the NBA Developmental League, a team source said. On Tuesday night, Nuggets vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien watched McCoy's game in person in the Los Angeles area. McCoy scored six points with 10 rebounds and five blocks for his team, the Los Angeles D-Fenders

Well, although it's several months later, it looks like the Nuggets followed my recommendation to select McCoy for the team. I believe that he will take a lot of pressure off of Camby, Martin, and Najera and give the Nuggets some rebounding help that they badly need. He should make a big difference to the team that has looked very sluggish lately because they have just been beat up because they had no one available who could beat up on the other teams big men.

He did pretty well in garbage time against the Lakers, wonder if he'll get more playing time while Nene is out?

Speaking of injuries, how much longer until Nene and Atkins are back?

The Nuggets waived forward Jelani McCoy on Wednesday. The former UCLA Bruin played in five games for the Nuggets after being signed on Nov. 29.

Totally lame, the guy played great in garbage time! Now with Camby and Martin banged up, what if they can't play tomorrow? We'll have 0 big guys for the blazers game...

You don't quite understand... They needed room for Nene and after Nene and Chucky came back he probably wasn't gonna be active anyway.

Yeah good point, still though that guy was pretty good, but I guess there was nobody else to cut...

PORTLAND, OREGON (TICKER) -- The Denver Nuggets signed forward-center Jelani McCoy prior to Friday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

McCoy appeared in five games for Denver this season before being waived on December 19. The 30-year-old has averaged 4.6 points and 3.5 rebounds in eight seasons with six different teams.

I am sitting her watching the Blazers game and MCcoy is starting!

The Nuggets had little choice but to bring McCoy back since both Camby and Martin were injured in the game last night with Houston, and Nene and Hunter were already on the injured list. They should consider keeping him for the entire year as a backup in case of other injuries to their big men. They seem to have enough guards.
