Default Kevin Martin's extension

Quote:
The Sacramento Bee reports: "The Kings might be close to signing Kevin Martin to a long-term extension. According to two league sources, the Kings have made the fourth-year shooting guard an offer of five years for approximately $55 million. Martin, who is entering the final season of his contract, is expected to be handsomely rewarded for his breakout 2006-07 season as an agreement could be reached this week."

Approximately, $11 mil. a year?
Think they're not overpaying?

It's not that bad, without Bibby the guy could easily 25 ppg. He's been improving every year...

Anyone wants to read the whole thing here you go: http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/sho...42#post1093242

IMO it's a decent contract. The Kings aren't that good right now so they're gonna have to overpay for people and he and Amare were I think the only 2 guys in the league to score 20 PPG on 13 shots or less. He's one of the most efficient players in the league. He's a great shooter, he's athletic, he's got nice lateral quickness, and he has a really nice work ethic. He should continue to improve considering he works out a ton every offseason and he's done nothing but improve so far in his short career. Gives the Kings a decent building block and it's not a ton of money.

How the hell is Bibby holding him back? I can see an argument for Artest but not Bibby.
While more of a scorer, Bibby's always been a decent to good PG.

A point guard with a shoot first mentality, will always hold back a guy like Martin.

Musselman got an Arenas/Richardson/Jamison team to only win 38 games. He is a REALLY horrible coach. We went from 44 wins with Adelman and a ton of setbacks in the same season to 33 wins with less injuries and stuff and the main change was the coach. The Kings should be better than last year. Bibby hopefully won't be injured, Martin should keep improving, and Artest hasn't been half the problem he's been made out to be(actually he's heading to Honduras for some charity next week to feed some poor kids or somethin like that). Miller was injured for most of the season and so he was innefective because he had plantar fasciitis. Bibby tore a ligament in his thumb. Artest hurt his back for part of the season. Muss dissed the guys on the radio after games and ish, they all hated him for that stuff.

Also have a few young players who could do ok if they got PT but we'll see how that goes. Bibby/Martin/Artest should be a decent team IMO.

Kings was good with Adelman, but that Musselman screwed it up and he is not the coach anymore? Right?

Martin can easly be a 25ppg player. His FG % will go down, but not much. Remeber he was going 50% 20ppg for a long time this season. Also shot a high % from 3point line

he needs to do much more rather than just shoot... 11 mil is too much... now they NEED to trade Bibby away to make that deal sound worthy...

thank god we have joe dumars in detroit. he only negotiates reasonable deals. consider the fact that Chauncey Billups is only being paid one or two million more per year than the rumored extension for Martin. The Kings are vastly overpaying if its true.

If you would have watched last season, you would have seen why.

It doesn't look like they're vastly overpaying when you look at this:
rank/yrs/total/per yr
1) Kobe 4yrs $89mil ($22.3mil/yr)
2) Wade 4yrs $60mil ($15mil/yr)
3) TMac 3yrs $63mil ($21mil/yr)
4) Allen 3yrs $52mil ($17.5mil/yr)
5) Johnson 3yrs $43mil ($14.3mil/yr)
6) Redd 4yrs $65mil ($16.3mil/yr)
7) Vince 4yrs $62mil ($15.5mil/yr)
8) JRich 4yrs $51mil ($12.8mil/yr)
9) Rip 3yrs $31.5mil ($10.5mil/yr)
10) Kevin (rookie deal) proposed 5yrs $55mil ($11mil/yr)
11) Gordon (rookie deal)
12) Miller 3yrs $27.0mil ($9.0mil/yr)
13) Roy (rookie deal)
14) Ginobili 3yrs $29.7mil ($9.9mil/yr)
15) Ellis (rookie deal)
16) Hughes 3yrs $38.5mil ($12.8mil/yr)
17) Davis 1yr $6.8mil ($6.8mil/yr)
18) MoPete 4yrs $24.0mil ($6.0mil/yr)
19) Scczerbiak 2yrs $25.0mil ($12.5mil/yr)
20) Crawford 4yrs $36.0mil ($9.0mil/yr)

Sorry but I don't see that, especially considering he's only 24 y/o scoring 20 PPG with some potential to improve still.
