and Scola is on the 2nd place team and got his team to the gold medal game...

Well, Scola did carry a younger and weaker argentine b-team through the entire tournament, coming through big on a couple close games, and helped them exceed overall exceptations by finishing 2nd. If that's not being the most valuable player for your team, I don't know what is.

Melo/Bron/Bryant had great performances, but its necessary to look at the big picture here. It never really mattered which one of them stepped up and got the glory. Each of them contributed in different ways in every match.

It's crap... I knew the thrive for Tourny MVP is why that ugly loser was in the game the whole time even when it was waaaay beyond over. But really who cares?

I just think its a joke to have a guy on the losing team win it.

While he was clearly not the Best player of the tournament, he was the most Valuable to his team. You remove any one of the Team USA starters and it would have negligible effect; you remove Scola and Argentina might not even make it out of the qualifying round...let alone to the finals.

this is an award for the whole tourney not just the medals game.... think of it as the NBA's regular season MVP where a player like nash can win it even if his team doesn't make it to the finals...

Can we stop lumping melo, bron and kobe together?

Anyone with eyes could see that overall Kobe performed a TIER below lebron james and carmelo during this tournament.

Back in 2006, You remove Lebron James and Cavaliers might not even make it to the post season. let alone to the NBA Finals.

I hope Lebron James dominate the 2007-08 Season because i am sick and tired of seeing the award went to players, who doesn't deserve to win that award in the 1st place.

THE NBA MVP award is probably the biggest joke in this history of proffessional sports.

I am just comparing the situation because most MVP winner doesn't deserve that recognition.

"Back in 2006, You remove Lebron James and Cavaliers might not even make it to the post season. let alone to the NBA Finals."

Lebron was defiantly a legit top MVP candidate. The only thing that hurt him was his teams regular season success (that award is based on) was only decent in a very weak East. The best players in the west had a higher degree of difficulty, and more impressive team records (though generally a lot more supporting help than Lebron had).

I know that, but I still think he was trying to lump up his stats in order to leave on a good note, sorta speak.
