Melo was a better scorer, but LeBron dominated the entire floor. I'm still overwhelmed by his PERFECT game. THAT was the best performance by the best performer of the tournament.
actually, it was VERY questionable. The only thing Melo did was lead the team in scoring, thanks entirely to the selflessness of Lebron and Kobe and Kidd.
who was #2 in scoring, yet #1 in assists? And also played much better D than Melo the Matador? Lebron.
Well no one was questioning it. Not even you for Lebron atleast, maybe Kobe. And Lebron did not play any better d, too bad your little gay matador name never caught on. And again Melo was leading the team in rebounding until he missed that game and finished with just .1 behind Dwight. Quit ya hatin.
Scoring isn't what its all about. It's about leading.
As far as Im concerned, LBJ was the team captian and he did his job as far as scoring, rebounding, dishing...and shooting an amazing 76% fg.
Without LBJ we probably would have struggled more but the same case can be made for Kobe/kidd/melo.
lbj came on strong during the last couple games. He was solid for the first part of the tournament and then stepped it up. Melo was solid the whole tournament. Those that couldnt see that need to set their lebron bias aside and look at it objectively.
Id be willing to bet 70% of all the shots he made in the tournament came within 2 feet of the basket. Not saying that to detract from his performance but dont throw out that percentage and say "shooting"; Let me for the record state that I think his jumper has improved immensly and he was stroking it well during this tournament. Im excited to see if he can carry it over to the NBA. But I still think Melo was better this series. The FIBA people seemed to agree with me as well seeing that Melo finished second in the MVP voting to Scola.
One could make an argument for either Bron or Kobe as well but from what I saw Melo was the most important piece out there.
With all that said. Everyone played the roles that were needed in order to make this team run effectively.
If you talk numbers, its a toss up between Lebron and Melo. Thing about melo is, everytime he touches the ball, he shoots it. But you really cant blame the guy coz he's shooting well. The thing with lebron is sometimes he forgets the team concept and forces to make one on one moves but only very minimal so its ok. He also showed GREAT improvement on his jumpshot
Kobe just went there and had fun and just let melo and lebron do their thing. Maybe bec. he knows this is his only chance to play with stars other than the allstar game. He'll be back w/ the lakers soon
But for me the real mvp is Jason Kidd. He might not have good numbers, The V in MVP is value not just stats. You can see how the USA performance changes when Kidd goes to the bench
