Default Is Mutombo a HOFer?

I was watching game 1 of the '01 Sixers-Lakers finals yesterday (one of the best games of all-time), and a question hit me: Is Dikembe Mutombo (born: Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean Jacques wa Mutombo) worthy of being inducted into the Hall of Fame?

Ideally, the Hall should include players who were among the very best at a particular skill, and clearly Mutombo has to be numbered among the best shot-blockers in league history. Not only did he block shots, but the intimidation factor he projected was huge.

If Dennis Rodman should get serious consideration for the Hall, (and I think he should) then why not Mutombo?

Great thread. I think he's definitely a HOF'er. One of the most dominating defensive players of all-time, and a killer rebounder. And he has 8 names...that HAS to count for something.

Borderline, but I'm leaning towards yes.

He should be in there, both for his achievements on the court and for his unique personality.

I think he should make it. It's a close call, but he should make HOF.

If he's a HOF'er then so is Rodman and Ben Wallace. And as much as every one seems to love wallace over the last few years, does some one who does 2 things well (rebound, play d) deserve in the Hall? Watching Deke the last two years playing for the Rockets made me like the guy even more, but really, he was only a defensive force for his career. His best year (his rookie year scoring) he was scoring a little under 17 a game. He's done great things as a person, and he's a great human being, but he's not a HOF'er

Besides, with that deep, raspy voice of his, no on ewould understand his induction speach.

Nique and Mitch Richmond were only offensives forces and they'll probably get in. Isn't Drazen Petrovic in? Why did he get in?

Rodman yes but Wallace?? He's not as good as the other 2 and hasn't accomplished as much.

Wallace isn't a HOF'er and probably never will be.

hes got neat resume but i'd say no its so unfortunate for him that he hasnt had much of team success like the other great defenders someone mentioned above.
