Default Evaluate Chris Webber's career..did he live up to expectations?

I'd say its been more disappointments than glory for c-webb, and I expeccted more considering his talent. I question if he ever actually loved the game. If he hadn't been lucky enough to spend those years in Sacramento his career would have been almost a complete wash.

Webber's career was a great one. He made it to big portions of the playoffs several times, he was on one of the most exciting teams in basketball, and he was an MVP candidate from 2000 to 2002. Having said all that, he didn't actually win anything. No championship, no MVP, no conference championship, no all-star MVP, no all-defense, etc. However, he has a terrific career statline, and he has played well wherever he has gone. So yes, Chris Webber has lived up to expectations, and we must appreciate his career once it's done.

He was the best PF in the game from 99-02'. He is a future HOF. If not for running into one of the all time great teams 3 years in a row he could have had a few rings. Look at what he did his best years

1999 20.0 ppg, 12.9 rpg, 4.1 apg, 2.1 bpg, 1.4 spg
1999-2000 24.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 4.6 apg, 1.7 bpg, 1.6 spg
2000-2001 27.1 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.7 bpg, 1.3 spg
2001-2002 24.5 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 4.8 apg, 1.4 bpg, 1.7 spg
2002-2003 23.0 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1.3 bpg, 1.7 spg

Yeah Malone had slowed down by 1999 and KG didn't take that title until 2002.

I think his career fell short of the hype, although he certainly showed signs of how good he could be. I think he took a lot for granted, and coasted on his talent... that being said... I think the guy has some real basketball smarts as evident by the interviews I've heard from him. I think he really enjoys basketball, but I don't think he's the type that has given every ounce of his life to it. He peaked at a level that matched expectations, but he wasn't a real go getter. Still turned out to be a very good player, and I liked him more as he matured, the guy impressed me with his interviews, and I can tell he wants to win and finds it important, but he's not going to bend over backwards to get it. Don't misunderstand me, he didn't have the Derrick Coleman or Glenn Robinson full-blown disease, but sometimes they gave him a mild cold.

He didn't live up to the huge Kings contract he signed, that's for sure.

Yeah, but you can't really say that just based on his play. Who knew he would have experienced an injury that severe?

wow, you guys are dumb as hell. Really short term memory, he had one of the worst injuries an athlete can get in the prime of his career!!! Remember sac was whoopin on the mavs during the playoffs then he landed all wierd and his knee went out!? what kind of question is that? did he live up to the hype!? before the knee injury hell yeah! they gave one of the greatest teams of all time a run for their money almost everytime they played in the playoffs, and it was mainly because of c-webb. He was THE best pf during that span. Remember the announcers would alwasy have a toss up between c-webb and garnett, and most would pick webb cause of his shooting. Imagine if he didn't blow out his knee, he MIGHT have a ship by now. You guys have really short term memory. How can you ask something like did he live up to the hype when he couldn't control a freakin knee injury!?

Yeah but he has very little competition...Wilt, Walton, Sabonis, Divac, Russell, Daugherty. Actually pretty much just Wilt, Walton and Sabonis

I consider Duncan a center. While Duncan was slightly better during that time C-Webb was a superior passer and scorer.

he never got the ring and he had some setbacks, but overall, i'd say he achieved a lot in the nba. his career was worth the #1 pick. if you thought his career was disappointing, then you probably think a lot of draft picks were disappointing because they never got anything close to c-webb's pretty solid resume. when it's all said and done after his retirement, webber got nothing to be embarrassed about other than that ncaa timeout
