Re: 2002 Kings/Lakers series - Who was the better team?
Kings hands down.
"nice guys finish last" that saying is so true.
Lakers needed help from the refs and Rick Fox's dirty nasty playing to win the series. (Even tho he's from my home town Fox is a very dirty player!!)
Re: 2002 Kings/Lakers series - Who was the better team?
Kings got more total FT's in the series and the game with the biggest discrepency in FT's was in FAVOR of the Kings. Lakers were the better team and won in spite of the officiating.

Yes. Game 6 was an absolute travesty -- an astounding 27 FT's for LA in the 4th with few calls against them despite massive hacking. This was the game where Bibby's nose fouled Kobe's elbow.
LA probably had the two best players in the series (though Webber was still top tier at that time and pretty much on Kobe's level), but Sac had the better team and played a more entertaining and team-oriented brand of ball.

And also, the ref's wrongfully counted a Laker 3-pointer by Samaki Walker which came after the buzzer at the end of the first half! Kings should have won that series. What a pity.

**** this
There's wasn't one second during that series where I thought the kings had a chance. LA coming out on top was inevitable and everyone knows it.

Or was LA the better team because they fought back from a huge deficit in game 4 to win, took advantage of home court reffing in game 6, and won a series-deciding game 7 - on the road - with no real ref advantage to either side, in which the Kings choked horribly in OT, at home, which they arguably wouldn't have done if they were truly better, and would have won?
Sacramento was cheated so badly and obviously in this series, it was EMBARRASING for the NBA and its officials, and the league itself. The referees who officiated this series had to go back to acting school in the off season, no question about it.

Ding Ding. Better team always wins. I'll admit game 6 was pretty bad but you cannot discredit everything the Lakers did that series. In the end, they did win 4 out of the 7 games. There was many chances in that series that they could have just folded and lost but they rallied like champions no matter how tough the task was (Being down 20+ in game 4, being down 3-2 in the series, winning game 7 on the road in OT)
Re: 2002 Kings/Lakers series - Who was the better team?
Kings = better TEAM, and the Lakers got lucky. Not only did the Kings have injuries, but LA got some lucky breaks (Vlade tipping it right to Horry). They were the second best team that season.
