i'd like to thank Billy King for giving us Bobby Jones
this kid doesnt even look the same player as he did last year. he is the current favorite to win the starting SG slot for Denver just based on how he's been shutting everyone down in practice/preseason.
have your teams ever had a trade where the throw in guy ended up being the standout??
Steven Hunter has basically been Steven Hunter. no rebounds but tons of dunks. Bobby Jones was just filler in the Reggie Evans- Steven Hunter trade and he's turned into this defensive monster in practice and preseason thats also shooting 62% this preseason.
word is George Karl is obsessed with this kid now. so much so that he basically announced that AI is moving over to PG. our lineup is looking to be:
PG- Iverson / Atkins
SG -Bobby Jones / JR Smith
SF- Melo/ Kleiza
PF- Nene/ Kmart/ Najera
C - Camby/ Hunter
i hope we give Jones a chance to start. now we'll finally have a good perimeter defender to go along with Camby downlow. if George Karl has his way, Jones is our new SG. pleasant surprise. thanks again Billy!!!

he's 6-9 from downtown in the preseason. i like this kid a lot. lets face it. Denver is not Chicago or SA or Detroit. we need all the defense we can get.
AI, Melo, and our bench is filled with offense-only players. we can score on anyone but we need a better balance. i hope this kid can keep it up. preseason is much different from the regular season, but he's got that Bowen-Raja Bell mentallity where he's in love with playing perimter D.

i only asked because last year spacing was an issue. when jr or blake was off teams could pack the paint. i agree that a bell / bowen type is just what dr. karl ordered.
Re: i'd like to thank Billy King for giving us Bobby Jones
wow that's great to hear i'm happy for the guy! I watched his career at UW and he played the 3 spot and was an ok shooter he was mostly out there for defensive purposes only. Dude was a team player and wanted what was best for the team. I was real suprised he was picked up last year as a FA.
He is really funny i remember seeing specials on him on a local channel it showed him and Brandon roy and some other guys going to nike town buying the new jordans and he didnt buy any because he said after a month they will get tired of them and he would get them from them for free! then on the special they all go to a local barbershop in the U district and there all hanging out getting trimmed then there coach walks in sees them and walks right out, it was funny seeing the coaches face it was funny...sorry i'm rambling now....
in HS he played at dominguez high school with Tyson Chandler
Re: i'd like to thank Billy King for giving us Bobby Jones
It didnt matter who was in Denver...JR Smith says are/were numbered. The fact Bobby Jones is your starting SG (or will be) is sad. But its nothing more than a case of being able to plug in filler at that position when you have AI/Carmelo as your bread and butter. Bobby isnt expected to do anything besides dont turn the ball over, defend, rebound. Thats it. Denver has big bucks invested in Kmart, Nene, Camby, Carmelo and AI (4 of the 5 starters). You guys are handcuffed to what upgrades you can make anyway so I wont be surprised if JR Smith is traded FOR a legit SG as Boby falls back into his bench role. Use your brain here.
Wasnt there a Flip Murray for JR Smith trade proposal floating around? Heck if say that were true, went thru? Flip starts. Bobby is a temp worker.
Re: i'd like to thank Billy King for giving us Bobby Jones
well we NEED someone who starts who doesnt turn it over, defends, and rebounds. so his "role" definitely fits. we dont need our SG to shoot anymore than 5 shots a game. we just need a guard that can be a good perimeter defender.
we have more than enough offense. maybe too much if thats possible. Jones (if he keeps it up) gives us a much better balance.
PG- AI = all offense, no defense
SG -Jones = good defense
SF- Melo = just like AI
PF- Nene = above average at both
C- Camby = decent offense, great defense.
we definitely dont need any offense out of our starting SG. just a defensive specialist to be next to Iverson on the perimeter. so it looks like Bobby Jones fits in perfectly right now.
Re: i'd like to thank Billy King for giving us Bobby Jones
I wouldn't give up on JR too soon. He will only turn 22 years old next month, a year and ten months younger than Jones, and he doesn't have the benefit of playing college ball, like Jones, to develop his fundamentals. The Nuggets have a history of giving up on players too soon, ALA Chauncey Billups, and watching other teams reap the benefits.
If the Nuggets are patient and put JR into a good development program, they could have a superstar on their team in a couple of years. This kid came out of high school with sky high potential, and he still has it, he just needs someone, one of the Nuggets coaches, to help him mature and develop mentally and emotionally as a person, and as an athelete.

I wanted the Raptors to get him in the 2nd round of that year. Until he does something significant in the regular season though, there is nothing to thank anyone for.
