No, because I can't spin the ball for that long.

For 5$? Of course I take it. Watching someone who can do that might well be worth it.

Nice anecdote :)

I'd take the bet, he didn't say anything about distraction.

I don't believe that story. I'm actually really good at spinning the ball on my finger, and even if you could do it from a technical standpoint, it's actually very tiring on the shoulder after as little as ten minutes. Maybe if he could go from one hand to the other, but even then I'm not sure I'd buy it.

Great scene though. That's a much better movie than The Hank Gather's Story.

i didnt see the movie-- it was in the book pistol: the pete maravich story

he did comment that it was getting tiring and his finger started to bleed. so he switched fingers and switched to his left hand too

if the story isnt true, it ought to be:)

I would take the bet and probably leave after 15-20 minutes citing religious grounds on which I can't pay him... no but seriously, hour seems 45 minutes too long...

but $5 in 1955 (?) was worth a lot more. and it would still be a small price to pay to be able to tell a legendary tale...

So you got the book, let me know what you think. And the story from all accounts is true.
