He's only averaged 9 minutes a game so far this year.
But...........he's played at least 20 minutes in two games this season. On 11/10 against the Suns, he played 20 minutes and came up with 11 points, 3 boards, 2 assists, and blocked shot and was 5/8 from the field. The very next game, on 11/13 against Seattle, he played 27 minutes and came up with 11 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.
Clearly, he is producing when given a fair amount of playing time. I know Turkoglu is playing well, but I think they could find more minutes for Ariza. More importantly, I think they should fight more minutes for Ariza.
Just my thoughts on that. He's a talented kid and doesn't deserve to toil away on the Magic bench.
He has been in the league long enough to have made a name for himself, but still hasn't.
Who's fault is that?
He was born in 1985. He's 22 years old. Played one year of college ball.
Played 22 minutes a game last season and produced decently. I just don't know why he hasn't been given at least the same amount of playing time this year. There's no one on that Magic bench standing in his way.
i agree i think ariza should get more minutes for sure hes a talented player and hes still extremely young
arroyo is also very talented but he doesnt make smart decisions like taking a bad shot when he could deliver the ball to howard in a far superior position to score
He has great athleticism. It was a brilliant move getting Ariza and at same time dumping Francis on Knicks.
Ariza seems like someone who could become a great defensive stopper, like a Bowen or Prince. I'm not convinced he can be a great player, but a niche player.

Yeah, he has below average decision making skills, and that's not good for a point guard. He is a better street baller. Like Skip.

I agree.
But I think his niche would require him to get at least 18 minutes a game. Turkoglu plays 35 minutes a game so that leaves 13 minutes for Ariza just backing Hedo up, but he's only getting 9 minutes a game.
Maybe SVG isn't feeling him. Who knows? All I know is that I see production when he is given decent minutes so I just figured it was behoove the Magic to play him that amount of time.

yea he just doesnt make the smart decisions but hes still talented... could be a very good player for the magic if he just made better decisions but oh well
anyways i think ariza should definetly get more minutes turk is producing well this season but when he or rashard isnt playing im sure there could be an opening for him... even keith bogans is getting 30 mpg i mean theres gotta be minutes for ariza somewhere
The way the Magic are playing basically means that we need a couple of guys that can shoot on the court at all times that Dwight is on, with out roster that basically means that Shard and Hedo have to be out there.
Another reason he is struggling to get minutes is the $116m we gave Shard. You give out a contract like that and you are also giving him 40mpg for the next 2 seasons at least just to justify the contract. Combine that with Bogans and Hedo and it really doesn't leave much for anyone else. You could certainly make the case that Ariza should be playing ahead of Bogans though.
But mostly it's that he can't shoot, if he fixes that I can see no reason he shouldn't get more minutes.

I agree. SVG doesn't look committed to finding a place for Ariza here. If the Magic end up dumping him to another team, I think it could end up coming back to bite them in the long run.

Whats the point of bumping up a thread from two years ago?
