I watched them in highschool and I considered Rose to be the clearly better player. I still think he's the better pro prospect (I think everyone here does), but Gordon again has looked amazing and even though he's played against lesser comp. than Rose, you can only go by what you see.

I do think Rose is a better crunch time and around the basket finisher though (regardless of those two ugly Wade like misses against UConn ).

I'll take Gordon's outside shot right now though.

but we were all saying the same things about S-live and Bassy in '02. lets not get ahead of ourselves.
maybe you were. I was proclaiming both to be epic busts, although I thought Bassy would be at least rotation-quality.

Rose has a ton of talent but I havent seen anything out of him that says this guy is the next Chris Paul or Deron Williams at point. He looks like Dajuan Wagner right now to me.
I'm not asking you how he looks as a prospect, I'm asking all you guys based on a pure talent standpoint where Derrick Rose stands. anyone automatically dismissing the question isn't giving it any thought. if he isn't who is? in the next 3 years he may or may not develop NBA PG skills of an all-star caliber. but that doesn't change his talent.

Yeah Gordons shot is wet. Rose? Eh, I'd give him a shot and play off him.

Rose's handle, speed, and strength are amazing...but I wouldn't say he is the most talented point guard ever....the most talented point guards ever have a natural sense of the court and their surroundings...prime example: Jason Kidd.

Jason "19 rebounds in a game" Kidd, Isiah or John Stockton if you are not counting Magic.

Yeah, I was about to say........

I'm surprised we made it to page two without someone mentioning Jason Kidd.

I understand what geeWiz is saying. There is a difference between talent and skill. Jason Kidd, Gary Payton, and guys like that are very skilled. Rose is not at that level yet.

However, when you talk about natural talent to play basketball, Rose is probably the best of all-time at his age. Not counting Magic of course. I base this talent on if you never have had formal coaching, just being able to go out there and play basketball. Rose might be faster than any PG in the NBA, is very strong, and would out-perform most in athletic drills or whatever. The thing is that Rose is still kind of raw and forces things a lot. His basketball IQ is good for his age, but cleary not at the level of even average NBA PG. Beasley might have a better season, but Rose will be the better NBA player I think.

Rose actually kind of reminds me of Gary Payton. Payton obvisously is a much better defender, but both just have that extra something that makes them great. Payton never seemed like the most skilled player, but was the best player on the court a lot of times. One of the best PG of all-time. Rose will be a little stronger, but Payton was a little more physical. But Rose is a highlight waiting to happen. He really flys throuh the air and changes his direction so well. He might be like the Walter Payton of PG.

Derrick Rose looks like a Marbury at best, which is great talent-wise.

Rose has talent. Not really PG talent though. He is going to be a good one but his skills are a bit tweenerish for me. Pure PG skills are lacking and pure SG skills are lacking but he has the in between skills. Needs to work on both and he can be what guys like Marbury, Davis and Arena's could have been. Bit much like Francis right now.
