Which duo would you take? As far as individual skills, there's no doubt that Payton > KJ and Barkley > Kemp. But, if you put them on the court, they had great chemistry and were very entertaining to watch.
I'd take KJ and Chuck. I loved how Bill Walton put it...Barkley didn't play a position just like Magic and Bird meaning he was a guard, sf and pf at once. KJ was an amazing player too. the first finals I remember watching was Suns vs Bulls.
I disagree, Chuck had an MVP with KJ, Chuck and KJ beat them in the WCF, and they both took the Bulls to six games.
Chuck and KJ were never upset in the first round either, like Payton and Kemp were as a number one seed.
KJ only played 49 games during that season and it's probably the worst season he had while he was still in his prime. The two of them were never really in sync while Barkley was there and neither of them really complimented each other strengths. Where as Payton and Kemp played nothing but to their strengths because they started out together.
i'd take prime barkley over prime anyone else out of those four, but i think the 96 payton / kemp tandem was the better duo / got more out of each other. barkley and kj separately helped all the role players on that suns team, but they didn't really do a lot for each other.
This is a tough one since these were my fav. teams in the early-mid 90's. I would take Payton/Kemp though simply bc of Payton's defense mixed with his personality. Kemp was a monster. Similarly, KJ and Sir Charles were very dynamic as well. There really isn't a wrong answer in this argument.
