I don't like them. Just a bunch of candied fruit which tastes sick. Only reason I used to eat them was because of the money in them thing. I would pretty much eat until I was sure there was no money to be found, then I was "full" and gone from the table.

What was so great about him?

He was Jewish? Obviously. Jesus of Nazareth was a teacher and he was kind to those who were outcasts in their society, people who were regarded with distaste by the masses. Jesus gave many people hope and direction. For that he is great.

I don't know if it is true, obviously. It is what I was taught to believe. I'll never forget this time in the 3rd of 4th grade when my friend asked me what was the difference between Christianity and Judaism and I offered that we don't believe Jesus was the son of God, to which he replied, "Oh, well he was." And he just kept talking like nothing had happened. Oh, and to add to your conspiracy thing, I'm sure you know this, but there has to be someone on here who doesn't. Jesus' last name wasn't Christ. You can make a big conspiracy file about this stuff, eh Dooms?

My family and I don't really "celebrate" Christmas, though we do get together and exchange gifts and whatnot. It's less about religion and more about tradition. If that makes any sense at all.

Edit - Oops, shoulda read the first page of the thread before posting...

Doesn't really matter. I think that makes a lot of sense, the tradition thing.

Really?

It's the time of year where families are supposed to come together, be about the giving, etc. - and for all the shit your parents are going to get you, you won't even sit through a (at most) two hour service just for their sake?

There are two Christmases. One is the Christian celebration of Christ's birthday (whoever said Christ is not Jesus' last name: yes, we know that. 'Christ' is the greek word for "Messiah", technically it's Jesus THE Christ, but, over time, they dropped the "the"), and the other Christmas is the secular, gift-giving, Christmas tress, Santa, etc., etc, Christmas. Probably half of America celebrates both, but the rest that celebrate Christmas just celebrate the secular Christmas. Which is why I don't understand why some Jews and Muslims make such a big deal about a Christmas tree being at their work place or on government property as though a Christmas tree endorses Christianity.

The tree predates christ.

because its actually a bastardization of a solstice ritual, which I do believe in. Jesus was born in the late summer in the northern hemisphere. Xmass is when it is becuase it was an attempt to subvert the celtic-pagan Yule holiday. That being said I do find the commercialization (of america not just xmass) pretty sickening.

Do you realize than in mediteranean countries like Spain, xmass is not a big deal? The real holiday is the 12th day of xmass, all kings day, jan 6th.

it really depends on where you get it from. I thought I hated fruitcake until I had one from Assumption Abbey http://www.trappistmonks.com/ great rum/brwm sugar flavor and so moist. the bad ones tend to be too full of candied fruit and dry and crumbly.
